Dust suppression

Magnesium is removed from brines of the Great Salt Lake in the form of magnesium chloride. This is then used to make elemental magnesium, dust suppressants, and bischofite flake. Magnesium chloride is also used in drilling mud, ion-exchange resins, oxi-chloral cements, fertilizers, and miscellaneous industrial uses. [Pg.412]

Method of Adding Liquids When the addition of hquids may be desirable (see Dust Formation and Elec trostatic Charge ), this should be considered when designing the mixing system rather than hastily improvised. The purpose of the liquid shomd be considered, whether for (I) dust suppression, (2) product, or (3) heating and cooling. If a viscous hquid must be well distributed, this requirement should be considered when choosing the mixer. [Pg.1768]

Use pneumatic transport, enclosed conveyor belts, or self-closing conveyor belts, as well as wind barriers and other dust suppression measures, to reduce the formation of fugitive dust. [Pg.127]

Dust suppression The preventive measures taken to eliminate or reduce the spread of dust generated by a process into surrounding areas. [Pg.1432]

Apart from the provision of various permutations of (chemical-based) boiler water programs, it is common to find water treatment companies supplying value adding chemicals and services in other boiler plant-related areas where their expertise in applied chemical technology can deliver additional economic benefit. Such areas typically include cleaning services for boiler waterside and fireside and the provision of fuel treatments and combustion additives, dust suppressants (for coal and ash handling), acids, and cleaner products. [Pg.140]

The dust suppressant method uses chemicals to (temporarily) strengthen bonds between soil particles and reduce fugitive dust emissions from inactive waste piles. Dust suppressant is expected to be 100% effective for a period of one to four weeks if the use of chemical is appropriate and undisturbed. Dust suppressants can also be used to control dust from work areas however, it is less effective and requires frequent reapplications. [Pg.611]

For example, it has been found that dust in the size range from 2 to 4.5 um is more efficiently removed (95-98%) by the use of a dust suppressant additive than is larger ( 90%) or smaller ( 70%) size dust. [Pg.123]

Effect of Dust Suppressing Lubricants. The authors have studied the influence of dust suppressing additives on the dust generating characteristics of cotton (12). These studies were concerned primarily with the concentration of the dust generated during processing. In this paper the PSD of the dust obtained from a few of these runs will be examined. [Pg.133]

Respirable Dust—with the objective of providing improvements for protecting miners from exposure to respirable coal mine dust. Study areas have included (a) dust formation fb) dust control, and (c) dust measurement. Tests have included the infusion of water into coal beds for control of respirable dust the use of water-based, high-expansion foaming systems in conjunction with continuous mining machines, to reduce dust at the face the use of roam systems for dust suppression on conveyors and transfer points and the use of prototype dust meters.
