For polypropylene barrier containers incorporating a maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene tie-layer, normally, no migration (as maleic acid) is seen with distilled water over ten days at 40 °C. 

Coupling agents for more inert polymers like polyolefins are often acid-modified versions of the matrix polymer, with maleic acid grafted polypropylene as a prime example. 

In a different system with polydisperse reactive chains of maleic anhydride end-grafted polypropylene (PP-g-MA) reacting on a polyamide 6 (PA-6), Boucher et al. produced evidence consistent with a grafting rate controlled by the cent-er-of-mass diffusion of PP-g-MA to the interface [92].

U.S. Pat. No. 7,041,716 [74] describes a thermoplastic composite comprising a polyolefin such as polyethylene or polypropylene in an amount of 20-90% by weight, a cellulose filler such as wood flour in an amount of 30-80% by weight, a basic reactive filler such as glass fibers in an amount of 5-25% by weight, and a carboxylic acid anhydride graft polyolefin such as maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene in an amount of 1-5%.
