Looking into the Future

In this chapter, we first summarize our previous discussions and recap the importance of microlenses. Then we will attempt to shed light onto the future directions related to the research and development of microlenses, specifically the challenges such as packaging of the complete system, effects of gravity, evaporation of liquids, aberrations, and integration with other optical components.

The book consists of 14 chapters, in which we attempt to summarize the current state of the art in the field. We also offer a look into the future by including descriptions of several methods that hold great promise, but are not yet widely employed. The first six chapters form the core of the book. In Chap. 1, we define the context of the book by recounting briefly the history of free energy calculations and presenting the necessary statistical mechanics background material utilized in the subsequent chapters. 

It is also interesting to look into the future use of sensors in household appliances. An attempt to do this is made in Chapter 6 where the influence factors in this broad field are analyzed. These include socio-economic data of the end users (like age of the population) and their preferences (like savings of energy, water and detergents), ease of use and cost of ownership, as described in Chapter 6.1. One specific and interesting future development can be foreseen - the integration of home appliances into heretofore strictly separated areas, such as... 

Looking into the future, we expect that hydrogenation reactions will also be tremendously important for the conversion of renewable resources. Going from carbohydrates to valuable chemicals will require deoxygenating reactions. Thus, hydrogenation of alcohols, aldehydes and carboxylic acids will become very important topics. 

Nevertheless the age-old problem of balancing will not go away. Chlorine cannot be stored so if demand falls there has to be a rate cut eventually or wholesale conversion of EDC back to the 3 cent per pound level. At the other extreme, caustic soda cannot be put into inventory for ever. Caustic soda at the 30 level implies high chlorine values, which implies better use of the chlorine, especially where FICl is a co-product. Again, looking into the future, more isocyanate and epichlorohydrin units will be tagged on to the vinyl chain as is projected for China and Qatar in the twenty-first century. This ought to minimise the amount of co-product caustic produced (see Fig. 1.7).

Looking into the future necessitates dealing in rather broad concepts rather than with specific chemical problems. Nevertheless, as the machines used in transportation are modified and redesigned toward the end objective of lower cost and greater reliability,...

This chapter will explore the various drug treatments for psychotic disorders, with special emphasis on schizophrenia. We will also take a look into the future at the drugs under development for psychosis, especially schizophrenia. Mood stabilizers for bipolar disorders were covered in Chapter 7. 

Looking into the future, more lipophilic drugs are likely to be produced, and the delivery of these molecules through the oral route is expected to be a most important and relevant issue. 

Karsen Mogushestvo gave up on the past and started looking into the future as if he had already taken possession. 

In the final minutes remaining, I suggest that we look into the future — not too far, since my crystal ball remains cloudy —just to the year 2100 AD. This might be called World Changes During the New Century that Affect Allelopathy. My suggestion is based on world harmony.

I know you don t like to look into the future too hard, but do you believe that the next Administration will carry on your work Will the recommendations made in the report be carried forward and address implementing solutions to the problem rather than just restating the issues that contribute to the problem ...

How far should or can one look into the future We all know that what went before is an integral part of today and tomorrow. 

Looking into the future it is possible that there is further scope for community action under Item 7 of List I of the directive that is — persistant mineral oils and hydrocarbons of petroleum origin.. 

The California Department of Food and Agriculture is testing immunochemical assays for possible adept ion as analytical methods for pesticide residues in environmental samples. The work was initially undertaken by the Environmental Monitoring and Pest Management Branch (EM PM), and now involves the Department s Chemistry Laboratory Services Brandi as well. This paper discusses the history of our involvement in irrmunochemistry as an analytical method, our imnunochemical method development program, the format and other details of the assay we are using, and finally, looks into the future in anticipation of sane institutional problems which may arise. 

In this chapter, we highlight the preparative methods, which have been used successfully to produce active, selective and durable nanogold catalysts and look at their properties and the reactions which they promote. We then consider the potential commercial applications for these new catalysts and look into the future. 

It is interesting indeed to look into the future with these recent developments as a background and see a great new chemical industry based on petroleum as a raw material. In fact, petroleum is a source from which many of the industrially important aliphatic compounds can be made and very probably at low cost. Some of the possibilities may be enumerated as formation of new solvents and plastics, new soaps and detergents, new flavors and perfumes, better rubber substitutes and softeners production of fuels with better properties, of lubricants having characteristics nearer the mythical ideal production of hydrogen and carbon monoxide for synthesis of compounds not possible of direct formation from hydrocarbons etc.2... 

Although we cannot look into the future, we sometimes have concrete hints for the advent of groundbreaking biotechnologies or fascinating developments which will drastically change our current pharmaceutical understanding. 

With this background, we will proceed with our look into the future. Our crystal ball is a bit hazy and unclear, but that seems to be one of its inherent characteristics and we will do our best under these circumstances.
