Liver infiltration

A 13-year-old girl developed liver enzyme rises and fatty liver infiltration in the context of pre-existing obesity after taking risperidone 0.5 mg/day for 3 days (184). 

In one patient, azathioprine-induced lymphoma with massive liver infiltration was the probable cause of fulminant hepatic failure (SEDA-21, 381). 

Liver Fever, lethargy, change in color or quantity of bile in patients w/ biliary T-tube, graft tenderness and swelling, back pain, anorexia, ileus, tachycardia, jaundice, ascites, encephalopathy Abnormal LFTs, increased bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, transaminases, biopsy positive for mononuclear cell infiltrate with evidence of tissue damage... 

O The acute leukemias are diseases of bone marrow resulting from aberrant proliferation of hematopoietic precursors. The hallmark of these malignancies is the leukemic blast cell, a visibly immature and abnormal cell in the peripheral blood that often replaces the bone marrow and interferes with normal hematopoiesis. These blast cells proliferate in the marrow and inhibit normal cellular elements, resulting in anemia, neutropenia, and thrombocytopenia. Leukemia also may infiltrate other organs, including the liver, spleen, bone, skin, lymph nodes, and central nervous system (CNS). Virtually anywhere there is blood flow, the potential for extramedullary (outside the bone marrow) leukemia exists. 

Fatty infiltration of the liver. In this pathology, the triglyceride concentration in the liver is 10-fold superior to the norm. The accumulation of fat in the cyto-plasm of hepatic cells leads to an impaired liver function. The causes of this pathol-ogy are numerous one of these may be a deficiency in lipotropic factors and the associated therewith synthesis of excess triglycerides. 

Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) deficiency is distinctly rare and even more devastating clinically than deficiencies of glucose-6-phosphatase or fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase. PEPCK activity is almost equally distributed between a cytosolic form and a mitochondrial form. These two forms have similar molecular weights but differ by their kinetic and immunochemical properties. The cytosolic activity is responsive to fasting and various hormonal stimuli. Hypoglycemia is severe and intractable in the absence of PEPCK [12]. A young child with cytosolic PEPCK deficiency had severe cerebral atrophy, optic atrophy and fatty infiltration of liver and kidney. 

No microgranulomas or giant cell infiltration in liver, spleen, or lymph nodes... 

The presence of protein-hydropic degeneration (Fig. 13a), punctuate infiltration and necrosis, reaction of hepatic macrophages (Fig. 13b), nuclear polimorphysm (Fig. 13c), inflammatory infiltration of portal tracts and perivenular infiltration (Fig. 13d) were considered in the assessment of morphological alterations in the liver of the mice. 

Microscopic investigation of the mice from group I revealed the presence of vessel congestion, small numerous intralobular and perivenular infiltrates, moderate focal protein-hydropic degeneration combined with polymorphism of hepatocyte nuclei and inconstant lymphoid infiltration of portal tracts. Marked activation of histiomacrophage elements — hepatic macrophages must be emphasized. Homotypic moderate inflammatory alterations remained in the liver on Days 3, 5, 7 and 10. The presence of inflammatory mononuclear infiltration in the walls of central veins, typical for a viral infection, reflects a massive lesion of the vascular...
