Lining applications fabrication

Urethane rubbers have found steadily increasing use for oil seals, shoe soles and heels, fork-lift truck tyres, diaphragms, chute linings and a variety of mechanical applications. Fabric coatings resistant to dry cleaning are a recent development. In many of these applications high elasticity is not an important prerequisite so that the polyurethane rubbers must be compared not only with other rubbers but also with a variety of thermoplastics. 

Design and fabrication of tanks, vessels, piping and other equipment which are required to be protected with rubber lining against corrosion need special consideration in chemical plant construction. Certain features are to be incorporated in the design, and precautionary methods should be taken while fabricating the mild steel equipment to be suitable for rubber lining application. These are discussed below. 

Structural reinforcement members should be installed on the vessel exterior wherever possible. However, if such members are installed internally, they shall be fabricated of simple shapes such as smooth round bars or pipe for ease of membrane lining application.

Uses of Acrylic Rubbers. The main uses of ACM are in automotive and engineered products. Applications include seals and O-rings (for crankshafts, automatic and differential transmissions, valves, and so on) and oil hose. ACM vulcanizates are also used for roll coverings, tank linings, and fabric covering.

Solvents are used eommercially and induslrially for numerous applications. Some of those applications include polymer synthesis, coating formulations, cleaning (e.g., electronic circuit board, fabrics, ink supply lines, application equipment, and degreasing), and chemical processes. Platinum and rhodium-platinum and iridium-platinum alloys are frequently employed to line and sheath autoclaves, reactor vessels and tubes, and a wide range of equipment. Linings are generally 0-13 mm to 0- 38 mm thick, and for certain applications co-extruded platinum-lined Inconel or other metal reactor or cooling tubes are fabricated. In such cases the platinum is bonded to the base metal, but in all other instances platinum linings are of the loose type. 

In Reaction (3), the level of impurities (C and O2) remains high and Reaction (2) is usually preferred, although carbon retention is still a problem. These reactions are being considered for semiconductor applications to replace sputtering since their principal advantage is the low deposition temperature compatible with back-end of line (BEOL) processing compatibility in the fabrication of electronic circuits.
