Line responsibility

Initial membrane compaction is illustrated by Figure 3. Equation 1 predicts a straight-line response of J to AP, or at P. Owing to the compaction, a lower flux is observed. Once a membrane has been subjected to some pressure (P ), equation 1 is vaHd for predicting flux up to that pressure (Fig. 3, curve B). If the membrane is subsequently subjected to higher pressure (P2), the hydrauHc permeabiUty constant is changed (Fig. 3, curve D). 

Safety plans must make clear site-specific responsibilities and lines of authority. Examples should be used in the plan so that it clearly spells out what must take place in a variety of situations. An organizational chart should become part of any larger site s plan. The dotted line and solid line responsibilities give on-site personnel a clear indication of what is expected of them, and to whom they should report unsafe or unhealthy situations. 

Conventional advice maintains that there is no benefit in adding P to soils that contain available P of index 3 (26-45 mg/kg P in the soil). Beyond this level, there is unlikely to be an increase in herbage yield (Lockhart Wiseman, 1993). However, the experiment cited above (Newton, 1993) showed a straight-line response up to levels of available P of 103 mg/kg (index 6). The equation derived from this work suggested that for every increase of 10 mg/kg available P in the soil,... 

On line mass spectroscopy is a very sensitive method capable of giving on-line responses in less than 0.2 s [11,12],... 

An inherent safety review should be conducted by a multidisciplinary team. For new facilities, the inherent safety review is an excellent opportunity to begin to involve those persons likely to have line responsibility for the facility that will need to deal with the chemical reactivity hazards... 

The keystone of managing chemical reactivity hazards is line responsibility. The "line" referred to here is the chain of command and authority that extends from the operator to the chief executive officer of the company. When all the advice and consultation is gathered relative to an issue, such as from relevant area experts and safety personnel, it is the business responsibility to provide leadership. It does so by communicating values, setting policy, making appropriate decisions, allocating the necessary resources, and following up to ensure implementation.

That S/LP/S matters are line responsibilities that cannot be delegated to staff functions.

Inflammation is part of the first line response of the immune system to infection. Inflammation is characterized by two main components an exudative response and a cellular response. The exudative response involves the local recruitment of fluid (edema, swelling), containing proteins such as fibrin and immunoglobulins. The cellular response involves the release of cytokines from resident cells such as fibroblasts and the invasion of white blood cells into the inflamed tissue. Leukocytes take on an important role in inflammation by clearing the site from bacteria and cellular debris. In chronic inflammation an increased extravasation of neutrophils, monocytes, activated T cells, and macrophages to the inflamed site will persist.

For calibration of measuring equipment by measurement standards or CRMs, a straight-line response function is usually postulated...

Flow methods20 permit the placing of electrochemical sensors at essential control points. Normally a branching of the principal flow is aranged that passes by the sensors any reagents, etc., being added after branching and before the sensor. An on-line response can be extremely important for efficient control. 

On a complex plane plot, a CPE exhibits a straight line whose angle is n/2 a (1 < a < -1) with respect to the real axis. In a Bode magnitude plot a straight line response like that of a capacitor is obtained. The slope deviates from an ideal value of -1 as a decreases below 1. 

To date development of radiological monitoring and on-line-response systems capable of supporting safe decommissioning of nuclear- and radiation-hazardous facilities of the Russian Navy is in the early stage moreover, they still do not cover one of the most complicated aspects of the problem related to potential accidents at sea.

The complexity of the plan must be commensurate with the size and importance of the project. A large project would justify a dedicated Risk Manager who could even have a dotted line responsibility to a corporate risk management director.
