Leading leader

The direct linking of carbon nanotubes to graphite and the continuity in synthesis, structure and properties between carbon nanotubes and vapor grown carbon fibers is reviewed by the present leaders of this area, Professor M. Endo, H. Kroto, and co-workers. Further insight into the growth mechanism is presented in the article by Colbert and Smalley. New synthesis methods leading to enhanced production... [Pg.192]

The requirements of ISO 9001 do not apply solely to one department. As everyone in some way contributes to the quality of the products and services provided by the supplier, everyone shares the responsibility for the quality of these products and services. Every manager within an organization makes a unique contribution towards the organization s purpose and mission. The achievement of quality, however, is everyone s job but only in so far as each person is responsible for the quality of what they do. You cannot hold each person accountable for ensuring that the requirements of ISO 9001 are implemented and maintained, as the requirements apply to the organization as a whole and not to any specific individual. It is a trait of human nature that there has to be a leader for an organization to meet an objective. It does not do it by itself or by collective responsibility - someone has to lead hence the purpose of this requirement. [Pg.130]

Different requirements may be filled by a single team member. One member of the team should be appointed as the team leader and the team should agree about the division of other responsibilities. The team leader should be given clear instructions on the scope of work for the team and the schedule within which they are working. This will most likely be achieved through the application of Quality Management analysis techniques. Staff can be involved in more than one team, but avoid having one person lead more... [Pg.96]

The amount of research and developmentin CVD is considerable in the U. S. and abroad, not only in industry but al so in universities and in many of the maj or government laboratories. Government sponsorship in most countries remains an important factor either in terms of funding or as a research leader. Organizations such as the Department of Defense (DOD), the Department of Energy (DOE), andNASAintheU.S., MITI and MRIM in Japan, CNRS in Franee, and others el sewhere, pi ay leading roles in the development of CVD. [Pg.30]

Second, we analyse the position of the leading products in the different therapeutic and generic drug markets. Our aim is to evaluate the extent to which the leaders achieve dominant positions in each market. Positions of dominance are shown in terms of the market share of the most frequendy prescribed active ingredient, product or presentation in its therapeutic group of active ingredients, products or presentations, called v, in which g = 1,2,..., G are mutually exclusive groups. [Pg.61]

OSHA uses this term to indicate that the PrHA leader must have competence in the selected PrHA method as applied to process systems. However, OSHA has not formally defined "knowledgeable". A minimum interpretation could include completion of a "hands-on" type workshop on the PrHA method chosen experience in an actual PrHA, led by another experienced PrHA leader, using the chosen method and ability to effectively lead a technical brain-storming type meeting. [Pg.13]

Overall, several useful concepts emerge from these analyses. Different targets and routes of administration may require biased property distributions and screening libraries for successful lead optimization. This could influence the eventual chances of project success and should be taken into account early by project leaders. Once more, optimization focused on potency has been shown again to lead to larger molecules which increases the potential for poor ADME properties. The extent of any ADME issues would of course depend on the structure of lead molecule. Finally, larger, more lipophilic molecules historically have an increased rate of failure in the clinic. [Pg.452]

On September 17, 2006, the world lost a great scientist, the world s elephants lost a tireless benefactor, and we lost a superb collaborator, wise mentor, and dear friend. Dr. L.E.L. Bets Rasmussen was a wonderful and remarkable human being, with an infectious joie de vivre, boundless energy, a brilliant and probing intellect, an insatiable curiosity about nature, and an impish wit. She was clearly the world s leading authority on chemical communication among elephants, and a leader in the study of elephant biochemistry. [Pg.2]

Project-research, a method of organizing research by stipulation of projects and allocation of these to individuals or teams of scientists in separate laboratories, was developed in the United States during World War I in research on chemical warfare. This research was initially conducted largely by academic chemists as volunteers and later by them in the Research Division of the Chemical Warfare Service of the U. S. Army. Many of the leading American chemists in the 1920s shared the common experience of research on chemical warfare. The model of project-research was tried by the leaders of the division of chemistry and chemical technology of the National Research Council in order to allocate specific research problems and foster cooperative research after the war. [Pg.175]

Ingold exemplifies a research leader who combined information and approaches from disparate sources, reformulated questions and answers, and extended his influence widely through personal contacts and the activities of his students and collaborators. Publication was important as a means of exchanging information and exerting influence, but so, too, was personal presence. In contrast to the internationalism of the London-Manchester school, the combined intellectual and physical isolation of members of the Paris school in the 1920s and 1930s demonstrates clearly how isolation can lead to a dead end. [Pg.289]

Maharishi Markandeshwar University (MMU) is a leading University in North India and has become a symbol of quality education in technical, medical and other professional streams. MMU has been accredited by NAAC as Grade "A " university. Since its inception, the University is committed to excel in research, innovation and skill development. Our Industry oriented education system helps us to make our students leaders in the professional world. [Pg.5]

The TO 6 type got two separate gas jet pumps, one for each measuring range and an el. magn valve. A range selector does the same as the flow selector of the modified TO 4 type. The second stream is lead to an additional sniffing port which can be used by the panel leader. A port selector brings the main stream to one of four sniffing ports (masks), installed in four separate boxes. This equipment has been set up in a caravan. To set it vertical it is mounted to a ball and socket. Four panelists can take place in front of their masks A sample bag can directly be connected to the olfactometer. The delay between... [Pg.104]

Another key portfolio component that was added was the purchase of Acuson, an innovation leader in ultrasound solutions with a strong brand name, in November 2000 for just less than 700 million. This acquisition propelled Siemens from sixth or seventh in the world ultrasound market to the leading position. [Pg.30]

He could have initiated a visionary-sounding corporate initiative he could have written memos to senior leaders asking for endorsement he could have paid expensive consultants and he could have waited for someone to make it an official corporate policy. He did none of those things - in a textbook case of leading as a middle manager, he instead orchestrated the conditions... [Pg.158]

Cut back the leading shoot of each branch (the one making it longer overall) by one-third to half, and remove any shoots competing with the leader near the tip. [Pg.298]

A pioneer leader for women s rights, Susan B. Anthony became one of the leading women reformers of the nineteenth century. In Rochester, New York, she began her first public crusade on behalf of temperance. The temperance movement dealt with the abuses of women and children who suffered from alcoholic husbands. Also, she worked tirelessly against slavery and for women s rights. Anthony helped write the history of woman suffrage. [Pg.139]

One alternative classification scheme simply specifies the experience level of the lead investigator and then leaves the team composition to the leader. This approach depends upon the leader s experience and training. [Pg.21]
