Lavender-like

Lavandin oil is obtained by steam distillation of freshly cut flowering tops of lavandin, which is a hybrid of lavender and spike Lavandula angustifolia Mill, x Lavandula latifolia Medik.). It is a pale yellow to amber liquid with a lavender-like and a slightly camphoraceous note. 

Sweet, floral-fruity, bergamot-like, lavender-like... 

Examples of essential oil compounds showing these different odours include d-limonene, which has a dull citrus odour while /-limonene has a turpentine odour similarly, d-linalool has a floral, woody (lavender-like) odour, while /-linalool has a floral (petitgrain-like) odour. 

The odor is fresh, herbaceous-fruity-green, somewhat lavender-like, of poor tenacity (Arctander, 1967), the flavor green, fruity, fermented (Chemisis, 1998).

Spanish lavender oil behaves like spike oil, but has a lose marhad influence on the rotation. 

Some phenolic acids such as ellagic acid can be used as floral markers of heather honey (Cherchi et al., 1994 Ferreres et al., 1996a,b), and the hydroxyciimamates (caffeic, p-coumaric, and ferulic acids) as floral markers of chestnut honey (Cherchi et al., 1994). Pinocembrin, pinobanksin, and chrysin are the characteristic flavonoids of propolis, and these flavo-noid compounds have been found in most European honey samples (Tomas-Barberan et al., 2001). However, for lavender and acacia honeys, no specific phenolic compoimds could be used as suitable floral markers (Tomas-Barberan et al., 2001). Other potential phytochemical markers like abscisic acid may become floral markers in heather honey (Cherchi et al., 1994). Abscisic acid was also detected in rapeseed, lime, and acacia honey samples (Tomas-Barberan et al., 2001). Snow and Manley-Harris (2004) studied antimicrobial activity of phenolics.

Many gemstone-like materials have been grown for technological purposes and such material is sometimes faceted. 

The odor of a freshly crushed mint leaf, like many plant odors, is due to the presence in the plant of volatile C10 and Ci5 compounds, which are called terpenes. Isolation of these substances from the various parts of plants, even from the wood in some cases, by steam distillation or ether extraction gives what are known as essential oils. These are widely used in perfumery, as food flavorings and medicines, and as solvents. Among the typical essential oils are those obtained from cloves, roses, lavender, citronella, eucalyptus, peppermint, camphor, sandalwood, cedar, and turpentine. Such substances are of interest to us here because, as was pointed out by Wallach in 1887 and reemphasized by Ruzicka in 1935, the components of the essential oils can be regarded as derived from isoprene ...

The washing-up howl is plastic too but the detergent you put in it belongs to another branch of the chemical industry—companies like Unilever (Britain) or Procter and Gamble (USA) which produce soap, detergent, cleaners, bleaches, polishes, and all the many essentials for the modern home. These products may be lemon and lavender scented but they too mostly come from the oil industry. Nowadays, most products of this kind tell us, after a fashion, what is in them.
