Poly(phenylene sulfide) (PPS) is another semicrystalline polymer used in the composites industry. PPS-based composites are generally processed at 330°C and subsequently cooled rapidly in order to avoid excessive crystallisation and reduced toughness. The superior fire-retardant characteristics of PPS-based composites result in appHcations where fire resistance is an important design consideration. Laminated composites based on this material have shown poor resistance to transverse impact as a result of the poor adhesion of the fibers to the semicrystalline matrix. A PPS material more recently developed by Phillips Petroleum, AVTEL, has improved fiber—matrix interfacial properties, and promises, therefore, an enhanced resistance to transverse impact (see PoLYAffiRS containing sulfur). 

As a result of extensive development and testing by thermoprocessing or aseptic techniques, the use of flexible, laminated aluminum pouches and formed aluminum containers for shelf-stable foods is nearing commercial reality. The increasing use of aluminum for food packaging has been made possible by successfully combining it with specialized plastics, papers, adhesives, and coatings. In many applications, aesthetic as well as protective characteristics are also provided.

This plate cuts the flow into pieces which are better defined than the poorly defined ones obtained by the first-generation caterpillar mini mixer. In addition, the micro structure geometry was improved by means of simulation. As a result, near-ideal multi-lamination flow patterns were yielded (Figure 4.23), which showed excellent correspondence with simulation [50]. 

The design of sensitive elements (transducers) is based on the conductive principle of response registration the output signal appears to depend on the conductive properties of the TCNQ compound as a result of its interaction with gas components. The gas-sensitive substance of the transducer has been manufactured from complex TCNQ salts with N-alkylisoquinoUnium cations ([N-C H -iso-Qn] (TCNQ)Q [26]. The substance of the gas sensitive layer is put in contact with copper or silver current feeding electrodes, put on the dielectric substrate manufactured from glass-cloth laminate. 

The methodology presented is generic and can be applied to other types of materials, laminate constructions, and processing methods. In all cases a characterization of the cure state is needed first. As a result, models must be developed to predict the mechanical response as a function of the cure state. Mechanics models can then be developed for the specific application of interest. 

As a result, it is obvious that the powder bed technique is not as effective for the production of functionally graded SiAION ceramics as the lamination method.

This micro mixer extends the SAR concepts mentioned above, the sequential lamination being actively supported by the use of a separation plate for flow splitting (see Figure 1.126) [140], As a result of the splitting, two sub-channels are formed, initially at the same height level within the device. Then, one of these sub-channels undergoes a downward movement in a lower level of the device. The two flow channels are so sandwiched, the first carrying the two fluids separate from each other. At certain locations there are conduits within the sandwich to achieve flow recombination on one of the levels of the sandwich. This procedure is repeated many times.
