Kiss types

Kiss-Roll Colters. In kiss-roU coating, the web passes over a roU wet with the coating fluid, and has no backing roU. There are many types of kiss-roU coaters. The kiss roU can turn in the dkection of the web or in the reverse dkection but usually operates in the web dkection. Kiss-roU coaters are tension sensitive and are often used to apply excess coating prior to a metering device. [Pg.307]

Today hand washing is more important than ever. Many hospital-acquired infections are of the mrsa type (methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus), which are difficult to deal with. Medical workers who practice good hygiene can reduce the risk. But everyone, of course, should pay close attention to hand washing. It may be one of the most effective disease prevention measures we can take, since microbes lurk everywhere. You would be amazed at what can be cultured from toilet flush levers, faucets, telephones, and other people s hands and cheeks. Maybe those affected types who gurgle Dahling and air kiss when they meet are on to something. [Pg.246]

Exocytosis of synaptic vesicles or of regulated secretory granules results in incorporation of membrane into the plasma membrane. For maintaining the cell surface area constant, homeostatic mechanisms are required that assure a rapid and efficient re-intemalization of the incorporated vesicle membranes. Different types of vesicle recycling pathways are discussed for synapses (Figure 5), including fast retrieval of the vesicle at the site of exocytosis, called kiss-and-run, a slower clathrin-dependent pathway, and other clathrin-independent retrieval pathways (Royle and... [Pg.121]

Several RNA systems are capable of folding/binding in the absence of Mg2+ and such systems have been the focus of recent investigations (Lambert et al., 2009). These studies have identified intriguing dependencies of RNA stability on monovalent counterion type that have merited closer scrutiny through computational methods. An elegant example is the Tar-Tar kissing-loop system studied by Draper and coworkers (Lambert et al,... [Pg.412]

Recent simulation work (Chen et al., 2009) focused on comparative quantification of the accumulation of different types of group I monovalent cations around the Tar—Tar kissing loop. The analysis identified three salient features regarding the distributions of accumulated ions around Tar—Tar (1) The ionic atmosphere can be quantified in terms of free energy layers around the RNA using the methods described in detail below. The most favorable free energy levels (AG < —1.5 kcal/mol) are occupied... [Pg.421]

The tropics furnish homes for many types of insects, one of the more interesting of which is euphemistically known as the kissing bug. This bug crawls out of the crevices where it lives so that it can bite humans and suck their blood much like a mosquito. Despite this irritating behavior the bug has redeeming value because of the fascinating chemical tricks it performs. For one thing, as it feeds, it releases its saliva into its victim. The saliva in turn delivers a dose of NO, a molecule that... [Pg.901]

Typically, but not universally, HSV type 1 infects tissue above the waist, including the oral and ocular areas. It is transmitted by kissing or other close contact with individuals who are shedding the virus in active lesions. [Pg.527]
