Kiss rolls

Kiss-Roll Colters. In kiss-roU coating, the web passes over a roU wet with the coating fluid, and has no backing roU. There are many types of kiss-roU coaters. The kiss roU can turn in the dkection of the web or in the reverse dkection but usually operates in the web dkection. Kiss-roU coaters are tension sensitive and are often used to apply excess coating prior to a metering device. [Pg.307]

In the area of topical application, several methods have been used to apply chemical finishes using transfer rolls. The kiss roll. Fig. 2.4, picks up the chemical finish and transfers it by direct contact to the fabric. The amount of finish picked up is dependent upon how well the finish wets the roll, the absorbency of the fabric, and to a lesser extent, the surface speed of the roll relative to the fabric speed. [Pg.13]

The filaments are given a spin finish at the end of the spinning line (just after the glass transition is reached) by one of the many techniques, such as kiss-roll or nozzle spray. The finish is normally sprayed onto the filaments in high-speed spinning machines. Readers may refer to the literature for information on spin finish functions and its formulation [5]. [Pg.325]

Soil retardants can be applied to fibers, yams, fabrics, or carpets by spraying, padding, kiss-roll, or foam application techniques. Some soil retardants are applicable also by exhaust methods. Spraying is the most popular method for applying soil retardants to carpets. The required amount of a soil-retardant product is typically 0.5-1.6% of the weight of dry face fiber or about 200 ppm as fluorine. Usually, the soil retardant as applied as the last step before the carpet is dried. The presence of a fluorinated finish on the carpet can be confirmed by an oil-repel-lency test, based on the AATCC 118-1997 test (see Chapter 12), or a water-repel-lency test. Fuorier transform infrared and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (ESCA) (Chapter 9) provide semiquantitative information on the fluorinated soil-retardant concentration on the fibers. [Pg.568]
