Iron composition

Operational Characteristics. Oxygen generation from chlorate candles is exothermic and management of the heat released is a function of design of the total unit iato which the candle is iacorporated. Because of the low heat content of the evolved gas, the gas exit temperature usually is less than ca 93°C. Some of the heat is taken up within the candle mass by specific heat or heat of fusion of the sodium chloride. The reacted candle mass continues to evolve heat after reaction ends. The heat release duting reaction is primarily a function of the fuel type and content, but averages 3.7 MJ/m (100 Btu/fT) of evolved oxygen at STP for 4—8 wt % iron compositions. [Pg.486]

Reaction 3 also occurs on cooling since the concentration of SO is very low at roaster temperatures of 950°C and approaches zero at 1000°C. Another important reaction that occurs during roasting is the formation of zinc ferrite, Zn0-Fe2 03 above 650°C (see Ferrites). Zinc ores contain 5—12% iron. Zinc ferrite forms soHd solutions with other spinels, such as Fe0-Fe203, and therefore the zinc—iron compositions formed are of indefinite stoichiometry. Ferritic zinc is difficult to solubilize in hydrometaHurgical leaching but several recovery processes are discussed below. [Pg.399]

The first-principles calculation of NIS spectra has several important aspects. First of all, they greatly assist the assignment of NIS spectra. Secondly, the elucidation of the vibrational frequencies and normal mode compositions by means of quantum chemical calculations allows for the interpretation of the observed NIS patterns in terms of geometric and electronic structure and consequently provide a means of critically testing proposals for species of unknown structure. The first-principles calculation also provides an unambiguous way to perform consistent quantitative parameterization of experimental NIS data. Finally, there is another methodological aspect concerning the accuracy of the quantum chemically calculated force fields. Such calculations typically use only the experimental frequencies as reference values. However, apart from the frequencies, NIS probes the shapes of the normal modes for which the iron composition factors are a direct quantitative measure. Thus, by comparison with experimental data, one can assess the quality of the calculated normal mode compositions. [Pg.187]

Fig. 5.15 Schematic representation of the normal modes of the Fe(ni)-azide complex with the largest iron composition factors. The individual displacements of the Fe nucleus are depicted by a blue arrow. All vibrations except for V4 are characterized by a significant involvement of bond stretching and bending coordinates (red arrows and archlines), hi such a case, the length of the arrows and archlines roughly indicate the relative amplitude of bond stretching and bending, respectively. Internal coordinates vibrating in antiphase are denoted by inward and outward arrows respectively (taken from [63])... Irons composition principally of pure metallic nickel-iron. A large piece of unoxidised iron is very rare on Earth because it quickly oxidises to the iron ore. [Pg.161]

If we look back to the experimental studies on natural expandable minerals at high pressures, it can be recalled that the production of a chlorite-phase occurred when interlayering in the natural dioctahedral mineral had reached about 30% interlayering. It is possible that below this transition only expandable phases are present for most magnesium-iron compositions one is dioctahedral, the other would be trioctahedral. Thus, at temperatures below the transition to an ordered allevardite-type phase, dioctahedral mixed layered minerals will coexist with expandable chlorites or vermiculites as well as kaolinite. The distinction between these two phases is very difficult because both respond in about the same manner when glycollated. There can also be interlayering in both di- and... [Pg.98]

Finally, catalytic activity was tested and compared on Fischer-Tropsch process (hydrogenation of CO), on doped iron composite (Fe/SC-155) and on doped iron isolated carbon network (Fe/C-155). The reaction parameters were temperature = 270 °C R(H2/CO)= 3 and pressure = latm. [Pg.703]

Potent recrystallization-inhibitors will also be useful as additives to prevent recrystallization in materials such as grain oriented silicon steel or silicon-iron composites (22, 23). In a different venue, such compounds have applications in the food industry to enhance the texture and tastes of various frozen food products. [Pg.155]

No special strict requirements are put forward with respect to cast iron composition because in this case adhesion of enamel is of a mechanical nature. The carbon content is usually 3.4 —3.7%, of which 2.5 —3.0% is in graphite form. The base material should be mostly pearlitic, since free cementite in the form of larger crystals is responsible for bubble formation by oxidation. The quality of enamels is adversely affected by sulphur. [Pg.415]
