The process has been licensed to some 30 organizations worldwide. The UK shipbuilder Vosper Thornycroft uses it for molding large bulkhead panels for minehunters and believes that laminates can be developed to meet stringent new regulations, such as the latest International Marine Organization (IMO) code (which some have feared would spell the end of TS polyesters in fabrication of primary marine structures). 

The International Marine Organization (IMO)/American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has fire test performance requirements for the protection of piping systems (primarily for shipping that utilize a fire exposure very similar to UL 1709 for durations of 30 and 60min. Formal Safety Assessment [FSA] is a designation used in a number of different contexts, (e.g. the nuclear industry) in order to describe a rational and systematic risk-based approach for safety assessment (Kristiansen 2005). In the maritime world, FSA was first proposed by the UK Marine Safety Agency in 1993 [Marine Coastal Agency from 1998], which was adopted by the International Maritime Organization [IMO] in 1997. The guidelines for FSA were approved for use by IMO through the Guidelines for Formal Safety Assessment (IMO 2002).

Other publications deal with the effects and fate of pollutants and experimental techniques for such studies (see for example [44]). In addition, the effects of pollutants on marine organisms are periodically reviewed (for the last review in the series by Reish et al. see [45]). Similar periodic reviews are published for mixing and transport processes [46]. Toxicity data for marine fauna are also available from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency database AQUIRE. Generally speaking, the sensitivity of marine fauna to chemicals varies widely, particularly among the crustaceans [47].
