Innovate innovation

We need to innovate in quite different ways than we did in the past - practicing what has been termed Open Innovation . Innovative efforts must be structured differently and cannot be handled alone by DuPont s R D community. 

The answer - and hence the challenge - is value driven innovation innovation driven by the changing environment, technological opportunity, and the consumer. Technology push will no longer suffice Innovation must be driven by consumer pull. 

If you ve completed a Project Charter, you ve established the business case for your innovation. Innovation hnancial management takes over from here and begins with a list of what you know (verihed knowledge), as well as what you need to find out (unverihed assumptions and unknowns).

How to keep the innovators innovating Aside from the territory we ve covered, there are two or three additional important points. Some of them may go the management ladder, others the scientific pathway, but in either case, especially the latter, the industrial innovator must be encouraged - and given every reasonable opportunity to stay in touch with new happenings in his field. Technological obsolescence of personnel is the bane of all scientists, but especially of the industrial scientists and innovators. 

The United States has always been the center of innovation. Innovation, driven by US engineers, has made this country special and has attracted some of the best minds to immigrate here. This innovation has created the products, services, and wealth that still make living in the United States better than most countries. If this innovation culture gets eroded or outsourced, the entire character and culture of our nation will be affected dramatically. 

Promote innovation Innovation is the key to success. You do not and cannot be a sole proprietor of innovations all the time. But if you develop the smarts to spot and promote, and integrate in your vision or scope of what you are trying to lead, hats off to you. Leader ...

Innovator Innovators create entirely new products or business models. They offer new value to customers, rude surprises to competitors, and huge new wealth to for investors.
