Initial involvement, lack

Paquette and coworkers have carried out a solvolytic study of a tricyclic system in which a 3,4-ethano group is attached to the 2-bicyclo[3.1.0]hexyl system. This was done to assess the importance of cyclopropyl versus cyclobutyl neighboring group involvement. Some relative rate data are given in Scheme 10 for 3,5-dinitrobenzoate hydrolyses in 80 % aqueous acetone at 115 °C. Product results are also shown. Deuterium labeling revealed the lack of any cyclopropylcarbinyl-cyclopropylcarbinyl cation rearrangements. Also, the results showed that cyclopropyl participation predominates over initial involvement of the cyclobutyl group.

The Grubbs pyridine solvates have proven valuable in materials applications and as synthetic intermediates. These solvates are not particularly shelf-stable, and they easily lose one pyridine in solution. However, they are well-suited toward applications involving electron-poor alkenes (e.g., acrylonitrile), where their rapid initiation and lack of phosphine to intercept the intermediate carbenes are particularly kinetically advantageous. 

Lack of initial involvement Although the safety behaviour checklists were circulated to managers for comment, it was only some time later that it was pointed out that the inclusion of mandatory items, such as the removal of all jewellery, caused problems. Non-compliance with these well-established items was a disciplinary offence. Inclusion of behavioural items of this type on a checklist conflicted with the no discipline promise given with the checklist. Such items were subsequently removed.

The addition polymerization of a vinyl monomer CH2=CHX involves three distinctly different steps. First, the reactive center must be initiated by a suitable reaction to produce a free radical or an anion or cation reaction site. Next, this reactive entity adds consecutive monomer units to propagate the polymer chain. Finally, the active site is capped off, terminating the polymer formation. If one assumes that the polymer produced is truly a high molecular weight substance, the lack of uniformity at the two ends of the chain—arising in one case from the initiation, and in the other from the termination-can be neglected. Accordingly, the overall reaction can be written... 

The major technical problem was the inability to define subsurface geohydrologic conditions with the initial data. Expertise in the area of geohydrology was clearly needed. A lack of specific analytical techniques precluded meaningful environmental and risk assessments. Cleanup efforts were complicated because poltiners are not regulated under RCRA but are regulated under state law. In the middle of the cleanup effort, the site became involved in Superfund activities, and to date this involvement has not been clarified. Project management has become very difficult because of the many players and laws involved. As a result, public confidence has been affected. 

The complexity of the phenomena involved is shown also by nitrogen implantation ofor-Ti and Ti N (Figure 15). As can be seen the lattice spacings of the Of-Ti increase with implantation dose while those of Ti N decrease, after its initial formation (20). The reasons for this behaviour are unclear and this lack of understanding is typical of the current state of the art.
