Goal-directed

The retrosynthetic analysis of fumagillol, the alcohol from which the antibiotic fumagillin is derived, has been outlined in Section 2.3. The experimentally demonstrated synthesis of fumagillol was derived by T-goal directed search to apply the Diels-Alder transform. 

Advocates of the global approach would argue that human activities are essentially goal-directed (the cognitive view expressed in Chapter 2), and that this cannot be captured by a simple decomposition of a task into its elements. They also state that if an intention is correct (on the basis of an appropriate diagnosis of a situation), then errors of omission in skill-based actions are imlikely, because feedback will constantly provide a comparison between the expected and actual results of the task. From this perspective, the focus would be on the reliability of the cognitive rather than the action elements of the task.

The unimodal association areas in turn project to multimodal sensory association areas that integrate information about more than one sensory modality. An important overall approach for treatment of sepsis is goal-directed therapy. Chronic use has been associated with an "amotivational syndrome" characterized by loss of interest in social activities, school, work, or other goal-directed activities. Cannabis use is cited as the cause of this phenomenon, but there is no evidence to support any causal relationship. There is evidence, however, that the symptoms of the "amotivational syndrome" are secondary to depression (Musty and Kraback 1995). In contrast to ethanol, there is no evidence to support that cannabis causes an increase in violent behavior (Murray 1986). However, cannabis use may be contraindicated in those with preexisting psychiatric disturbances such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia.
