Other organi2ations have assumed important positions in the field of patent documentation. IFl/Plenum Data Corp. (formerly Information for Industry) began in 1955 to index U.S. chemical patents by the Uniterm Index system. Uniterm indexing was eventually extended back to 1950. The acquisition in 1971 of Du Font s in-house indexing system and staff resulted in a more powerful system, the Comprehensive Data Base (CDB), which now covers U.S. chemical patents frommid-1964 to date. 

The aromatization reaction was first applied to steroids by Inhoffen, H. H., U.S. Patent 2,361,847, 1944 (to Schering Corp.) and later greatly improved by Hershberg, E. B., Rubin, M. and Schwenk, E. J. Org. Chem. 1950,15, 292. The Hershberg work provided the foundation for the industrial process. 

The effect of the amount of melamine on the flame retardance of the resulting foams was studied in detail by Shell (131) and Dow Chemical (133). A combined use of ammonium sulfate and aluminum hydroxide was proposed by Toyo Rubber Chemical Industries Corp. (136). Recently, blends of ammonium sulfate and weakly basic organic compounds, e.g., sodium carboxylates, were patented (158, 165). 

Desoto Corp. [124] patented a composition of an epoxy resin, specific polyol, and onium salt The composition, upon photocuring, gives a balance of hardness and modulus. Increased epoxy resin curing speeds by addition of a sensitizer to a sulfonium salt containing system was disclosed anonymously in 1986 [125]. Also in 1986, a photocurable composition having excellent thermal, electrical, and weathering properties, which consists of an epoxy resin and onium salt, was described by Daicel Chemical Industries [126],... 

The initial plan was to contract with private industry for a 10-ton per day production plant. A later decision put the plant at the inactivated Dana Heavy Water Plant of the Atomic Energy Commission at Newport, Indiana, within the Wabash River Ordnance Works. A patent dispute that resulted in a restraining order by the Chief Justice of the United States and problems with contractors visiting the new site delayed construction. Finally in 1959, Food Machinery and Chemical Company, the low bidder, got the contract and construction was planned for 1960. Shortly after the approval, the Chemical Corps supplemented the contract to provide for a VX weapon-filling plant.129130...

Since he was unable to obtain adequate funding for a new plant facility, he left Industrial Rayon in 1952 to join Olin Corp. where he served as vice president until his retirement in 1966. The National Association of Manufacturers established a pioneer award to recognize those few inventors who were awarded 40 or more patents by the U.S. Patent Office. This award was discontinued after being given to Dr. Bruson in recognition of his being granted more than 500 patents.
