Industrial mobilization

At dawn on March 12, 1938, German troops crossed the border into Austria. For ethnic reasons, Hitler s plan for governing Austria was not much different from his administration in Germany. Austria was to work for the German industrial mobilization, but her industries were not to be subjugated. [Pg.98]

There then ensued a decade of economic, political, and social turbulence beginning with the Great Depression and followed by the Nazi takeover in 1933, the shift to national autarky, and industrial mobilization for war and conquest—all of which directed I. G. Farben s focus toward the new... [Pg.119]

The submitter indicates that HPLC analysis of the product shows its purity to be 97.3% (with 0.3% of ergosteryl 3,5-dinitrobenzoate). HPLC conditions for this unchecked analysis are as follows column Chromegasphere SI-60 (3p., 15-cm x 5-mm) (purchased from ES Industries) mobile phase 5% EtOAc in heptane (1 mL/min) detection 275 nm. The retention times of 3 and ergosteryl 3,5-dinitrobenzoate are 4.90 and 3.83 min, respectively. Those of the other impurities are 4.20, 4.55, 6.17, and... [Pg.281]

The CWS, however, found itself hardly prepared to fight a major chemical war on the level of World War I. Increased budgets and personnel helped with war planning, but to actually field chemical weapons and build chemical stockpiles first required industrial mobilization and massive production. [Pg.37]

On the industrial mobilization see Elena San Roman, La movilizacion industrial (1914-1918). Apuntes sobre el caso espaflol, M.A. Thesis, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, 1993. It seems that the main short-term impact of this undertaking was the introduction of industrial statistics in the Spanish army. [Pg.308]

The driving forces behind Italy s war effort were two an apparently endless flow of government and Allied money and the administrative provisions introduced by special wartime legislation for industrial mobilization . These were first approved in June 1915, and were followed in July by the creation of a Sottosegretariato (Under-Secretariat) (after June 1917, aMinistero (Ministry) per le Armi e Munizioni (for Arms and Munitions). ... [Pg.63]

Lewis H. Siegelbaum, The Politics of Industrial Mobilization in Russia, I9I4-I7 A Study of the War-Industries Committees (New York St. Martin s Press, 1983), 37-39. The Special Council is important because it brought industrialist into the process for the first time. However, at first only the largest industrialists—mainly the traditional suppliers located in Petrograd-were allowed to participate. This provoked smaller industriaUsts— in Moscow and elsewhere— to set up their own institution the War-Industries Coimnittee. [Pg.98]

DMU is a core method in CE in the aerospace industry for assembly examination, layout examination, interference checking, and maintainability (see Chap. 13). Based on complete CAD data and a powerful PDM system, DMU can be created synchronously with each design activity. Based on advantages of DMU, the use of the Physical Mock-up has been reduced dramatically over the past years. Beside of standard monitors, many diff erent graphics devices are used for graphical output in aerospace industry (mobile devices, virtual, augmented and mixed reality). [Pg.587]

While procurement was kept at a minimum there were no restrictions on procurement planning. The Procurement Planning Division of the Chief s office was responsible for drawing up and submitting its portion of industrial mobilization plans to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of War. Early in 1924 procurement district offices were activated in New York, Boston, Pittsburgh, Chicago, and San Francisco. ... [Pg.32]

On 8 September 1939, one week after the outbreak of war in Europe, President Roosevelt issued a proclamation of "limited national emergency. This led to a greater emphasis on preparedness throughout the armed forces. While all CWS activities felt the impact of this declaration, procurement was affected more than other functions. The main current of CWS developments in the emergency period was the industrial mobilization program. [Pg.36]

The CWS took steps, under the guidance of the Office of the Assistant Secretary of War, to implement the educational order legislation enacted by Congress in June 1938. This legislation had as its objective the training of selected industrial concerns in the manufacture of a half-dozen Army items, one of which was the gas mask. The first educational order contract was written by the Chemical Warfare Service in late 1939 and several more were awarded in 1940 and 1941. The educational order program was the first real step, as far as the CWS was concerned, in the direction of industrial mobilization in the emergency period. [Pg.36]

Other strides toward industrial mobilization were taken under the Munitions Program of 30 June 1940. The formulation of this program by the President, the National Defense Advisory Commission, and the War Department was the first important move to supply an expanding army with the implements of war. " In June 1940 Congress passed the first of five... [Pg.36]

The beginning of CWS industrial mobilization at this time is discussed in Brophy, Miles and Cochrane, From Laboratory to Field. [Pg.199]
