The use of the dynamic or static sampling procedure depends not only on the type of the olfactometer used (mobile or stationary) but also on the field of application, and on the expenses (11). In industry dynamic sampling and mobile olfactometers are preferred (10). However, practical limitations often mean that the analysis will be conducted in a laboratory which implies static sampling (12). In agriculture mobile sniff-cars and large panels are usually too expensive. Therefore simple measuring devices like the Mannebeck-Olfactometer TO 4 were introduced (13). [Pg.50]

Further, and as a result of the nature of this industry, dynamic efficiency is basically a long-term related question due to several reasons. The sunk costs obviously limits the possibilities for introducing new technology into old systems. If new technology is introduced the old must be phased out. It may thus be more cost effective to operate and utilize the old technology. Further, new investments are throughput driven. No new investments are done if no... [Pg.340]

It may be useful to set the scene for our analysis of the chemical industry s current situation and future challenges by taking a brief look at its evolution, and, in particular, by outlining our understanding of the changes in general industry dynamics in the various chemical businesses over the past decades and up to the present day. [Pg.7]

The foaming capability and foam stability obtained from sparkling wines is usually tested by a dynamic foam stability method, as discussed in Section 2.6.2. Because these foams are evanescent and not really very stable, at least compared with the foams found in other industries, dynamic rather than static foam tests are the most suitable. In one version of the dynamic foam test, the Mosalux method, the foam heights are automatically measured using infrared beams and sensors [848],... [Pg.317]

The birth and adolescence of the synthetic dye industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries prior to WWI has been a case study in international business and economics. Fundamental lessons about building competitive advantages and industry dynamics that led to German companies ascendance over British, French, European and American rivals have been analyzed meticulously32. [Pg.79]
