The BS 2486 1978 water chemistry table for FT plants categorized boilers by FW hardness (unlike the 1997 revision, which charted by heat flux, and the ASME Consensus, which uses pressure to define boiler groups). This 1978 edition has been withdrawn by BSI. However, for the purposes of providing guidelines for those many thousands of smaller FT boiler plant owners around the world (especially those in newly industrializing countries) operating lower heat-flux units and without benefit of first-class pretreatment, it remains a valid standard. [Pg.562]

Although olefin metathesis had soon after its discovery attracted considerable interest in industrial chemistry, polymer chemistry and, due to the fact that transition metal carbene species are involved, organometallic chemistry, the reaction was hardly used in organic synthesis for many years. This situation changed when the first structurally defined and stable carbene complexes with high activity in olefin metathesis reactions were described in the late 1980s and early 1990s. A selection of precatalysts discovered in this period and representative applications are summarized in Table 1. [Pg.226]

A major trend in industrial chemistry has been an emphasis on improved processes for the production of major chemicals such as ethylene, propylene, vinyl chloride, styrene, alkylene oxides, methanol, terephthalates, and so on. The necessity for higher efficiency, lower cost processes has been accentuated by the relatively slow growth rates of major industrial chemicals over the past two decades or so. The fertilizer portion of the agricultural chemicals market as described in Table 2.6 is an example of the slow growth. [Pg.71]

The reactions of acids and bases are central to the chemistry of living systems, the environment, and many important industrial processes. Table 14.1 shows the top ten industrial chemicals produced in the United States in 1994. Not surprisingly, acids and bases make up half of the top ten. [Pg.481]

The method for obtaining phase diagrams is to find the required data in books on physical properties. Some examples are International Critical Tables (1924) Beilsteins Handbook of Organic Chemistry (1960) CRC Handbook (1984) D Ans, Lax Handbuch (1967) Ullmann s Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry (1988) Kirk-Othmer s Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology (1979) and VDI-Wdrmeatlas (1988). [Pg.163]

The brief historical survey given in Table 1-1 shows just how the closely ftie development of catalysis is linked to the history of industrial chemistry [4]. [Pg.2]

For the exclusive purposes of this review process, the Industrial Chemistry Branch (ICB) of OPPT has developed a short list of extremely toxic substances, for which there is concern at very low levels. This list is found in Table I. This list is subject to change as additional data become available. [Pg.160]

The mirror image of these meetings are the so called NICHE conferences summarized in Table IV. NICHE is the acronym for New Industrial Chemistry and Engineering Conferences. [Pg.173]

The Industrial and Engineering Chemistry ]o xmdX was established in 1909, and in 1923 the News Edition of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry was started. An Analytical Edition was established in 1929, and in 1940 the News Edition was made an independent publication. The latter was renamed Chemical and Engineering News in 1942 and became a weekly in 1947. The Analytical Edition was made an independent publication in 1948 and renamed Analytical Chemistry. Table 2 shows the publications associated with the I EC Division over the years. [Pg.9]

Handbooks and Reference Books Several key handbooks and reference books are well known to chemical engineers. These include Perry s Chemical Engineer s Handbook (Perry and Green, 1997), the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics (the so-called Rubber Handbook, published annually by CRC Press, Boca Raton, FL) (Lide, 1997), JANAF Thermochemical Tables (Chase, 1985), Riegel s Handbook of Industrial Chemistry (Kent, 1992), the Chemical... [Pg.11]
