Industrial Advisory Group—Corrunittee of industry representatives established by the AEG in 1947 to explore the commercial potential of nuclear energy. 

Reactor Safeguard Committee established to advise the Commission on the hazards of reactor operation. Industrial Advisory Group appointed to investigate peaceful uses of atomic energy.

Preliminary work on several of these projects has already been in progress for over a year. These initial efforts will be expanded and intensified when the committee on pesticides becomes activated in the near future. However, pursuance of this program will require the support and cooperation of all segments of science and industry. Advisory bodies from the various interested groups will be called upon for recommendations and suggestions on problems which fall within their field. In turn, the assistance of this committee will be available, not only to the medical profession, but to all other groups in any direction in which the committee may be useful.

The five private industry advisory subcommittees formed in these policy areas were supposed to manage their own operations, however, and so the planned structure did not stay that way for long. The Regulatory subcommittee broke up into three groups concerning health, safety, and the environment each group Issued its own report, and the three were Integrated into a first draft report. In Patents and Information, and in Procurement and Direct Support of R D, the subcommittees split and each produced their own reports which stood on their own. So we ended up with seven reports from the private sector Instead of five — if you haven t seen them, they re available from NTIS. We had so many requests for them that we re out. 

The history of the first serious attention paid to safety culture may be traced back to a report prepared by the International Nuclear Safety Advisory Group in 1988, on the Chernobyl nuclear power station disaster in Ukraine [10]. The concept has gained worldwide recognition in several industrial sectors, particularly in nuclear power generation and aviation. Probably the most important feature of the safety culture is shared perceptions among staff members and management concerning the importance of safety [11].

To advise it on matters for improving health and safety within an industry, the HSC has established a series of Industry Advisory Committees (lAC). These lACs are tripartite with the Sector Groups providing the secretariat. 

The foundation for the JT standardization efforts was the tremendous commitment of international parties. Once the impetus by SASIG was provided [1], the four entities PSI, the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), the Automotive CIO s and the Global Automotive Advisory Group for PLM (GAAG) have become the key players in this process (Fig. 11.8). Hereby, PSI (www.prostep. org) has put enormous effort in the pursuit of these activities [11]. 

The UK was one of the first countries to establish a national advisory committee, the Genetic Manipulation Advisory Group (GMAG) in 1976. The GMAG was superseded in 1984 by the Advisory Committee on Genetic Modification (ACGM) established by the HSC. Its terms of reference include the provision of advice to the HSC, the HSE and the Health, Agriculture, Environment, Industry and Northern Ireland Ministers on particular aspects of GM work.
