Implementation examples

The requirement of carbon sequestration is to find protected storage for a potential 25 Gt of C02 emitted annually. This emission is 600 x the amount currently injected in oil wells to spur production and 20000 x the amount of C02 stored annually in Norway s Sleipner reservoir, the first implemented example of C02 storage [3, 7].

COTS software functionality disabled by configuration is not redimdant code in the truest sense, on the basis that the disabled software is intended to be enabled according to the need of a particular implementation. Examples of where functionality may be disabled without creating redundant code include hbrary software (e.g., printer driver routines or statistical functions), built-in testing software, and embedded diagnostic instructions. 

With these basic definitions the implementation of changeability on the various levels of a factory can be started. Implementation examples can be found in (Wiendahl et al. 2007 ElMaraghy 2009b). 

The first step in the development of a standard begins with the European Commission mandating that a standards organization draft a standard. Next, a closing date is established, and within this time period all interested parties may comment. After approval, the standard will be published as an harmonized standard in the Official Journal, and then it is transposed into national standards by the member states. With the platform mentioned in 3.6, we have performed the post-synthesis verification procedure for several examples from the three scenarios mentioned. We here present results for one example for each scenario. EXAMPLEl is a working example performed by the AMICAL system. EXAMPLE2 is a part of the IKS pseudocode, where the register transfer description has been extracted by hand from microcode and a logic level implementation. EXAMPLES is a basic block from a differential equation solver performed by SUSAN. The proof script containing proofs of lemmas as well as HOL level and meta level decision procedures consist of about 2000 lines of SML code.

In the following, the author will introduce some implementation examples for each of the above mentioned fields of research and development, illustrating the potential of adaptronic concepts for different machine tools and manufacturing methods. Naturally, this section cannot be exhaustive, but rather must be limited to methods of cutting manufacturing. Since many of the implementation examples are not process specific, this section will provide the reader with a good overview on the state of the art, and he will find many suggestions that will help him to develop his own concepts.

Look back to the TMS implementation example (Figure 7.5) and notice that activity 2 has two starting dates time 0 and 5.17. Activity 2 can be started at the same time as activity 1 (time 0), or it can be started 5.17 days later. How can this be Why 5.17 days later Remember that for activity 3 to start, activities 1 and 2 must be completed. If both activities need to be completed by 35.67 days, and activity 2 takes only 30.50 days to complete, activity 2 s starting date could be delayed (35.67 - 30.50 = 5.17 days) until 5.17 days after the project s start. The difference between when it is possible to start an activity and when it must be started called slack time. Activity 2 has 5.17 days of slack time in it. Also, notice that all activities on the critical path have zero slack time. If activity 2 is delayed beyond 5.17 days, then the entire project will be delayed.
