Homosexual activity

In Britain, about 6% of men engage in homosexual activities at some time in their lives, most first doing so before the age of 20 y (Johnson et al. 1992). Of these, around 80% also have heterosexual experience at some time during their lives and thus qualify as bisexual, rather than exclusively homosexual (even though they may have phases of exclusive homosexuality at various times in their lives). Similar levels of bisexuality are found in other industrialised countries (e.g. France, ACSF 1992), but much higher levels may be found in other societies (Ford and Beach 1952 Davenport 1965). 

Five of the 83 (6%) males in the whole ejaculate study were involved in homosexual activities and all five had previously also had sexual relationships with women and so... 

Studies on the precopulatory behavior of males, at close range, have been reported and a basal level of male-to-male homosexual activity has been described (31). This work, however, will have to be re-examined under free-flight conditions especially in light of the possibile involvement of "short-range" pheromone components. 

There is a fundamental similarity between the persecution of individuals who engage in consenting homosexual activity in private, or who ingest, inject, or smoke various substances that affect their feelings and thoughts—and the traditional persecution... 

In the United States during 1995, 31,582 cases of hepatitis A were reported. The most frequently reported source of infection was household or sexual contact with a person who had hepatitis A, followed by attendance or employment at a day care center, recent international travel, homosexual activity, injecting-drug use, and a suspected food or waterborne outbreak. Many persons who have hepatitis A do not identify risk factors their source of infection may be other infected persons who are asymptomatic. The prevalence of previous HAV infection among the U.S. population is 33% (CDC, unpublished data). 

Although nitrite use was initially described among homosexual men who used nitrites in the context of sexual activity, more recently their use has expanded to include heterosexuals. Currently, in addition to being used as sexual enhancers, nitrites are frequently used in combination with amphetamines and ecstasy to accompany high energy dance and music among young... 

In the study of the large, homosexual group, several methods were used (1) informal observations of drug and nondrug activities of the group over a period of one year (2)... 

A sex pheromone was first demonstrated in the housefly by Rogoff et al. (1964), identified as (Z)-9-tricosene (muscalure) by Carlson et al. (1971) and shown to attract males in an olfactometer at doses as low as 0.07 pg by Adams and Holt (1987). Cis-9, O-epoxytricosane, (Z)-14-tricosen-10-one (Uebel et al., 1978) and methylalkanes (Uebel et al., 1976) are also components of the sex pheromone (Figure 8.1). Adams and Holt (1987) showed that each component has a different role in male courtship behavior. (Z)-9-Tricosene increases male mating-strike activity toward females. The epoxide and ketone decrease the number of homosexual mating strikes, thus acting as sex-recognition factors. The methyl-branched alkanes act as an arrestant and increase the amount of time a male spends with a treated model. 

People tend to create taboos about the activities and substances that are most important to them. Food, sex, and pleasure are very important, and many taboos surround them — although, again, there is little agreement from culture to culture as to what is good and what is bad. Muslims and Jews eat beef but not pork some groups in India eat pork but not beef. Homosexuality is taboo in most modern Western cultures, but has been fully accepted in the past and is still accepted today in certain parts of the world. 

These drugs are used recreationally in dance clubs where patrons sniff them on the dance floor to increase their enjoyment. Combining the beat of the music, rhythm, light shows, and dancing with inhalant use makes the experience more enjoyable for some users. Nitrites were also commonly used in sexual pleasure, particularly by homosexual males during sexual activity to intensify the experience." Unlike other inhalants, nitrite use has decreased considerably since 1979 among high-school students. 

The indications for active inoculation are .) people who are planning a stay in areas with a high HAV infection risk, (2.) those who are working in such areas or have close contact with HAV sufferers (including cleaning and kitchen staff in medical facilities), (3.) homosexuals, and (4.) patients with severe or chronic HAV-nega-tive liver disease, since a superimposed HAV infection can result in a life-threatening situation. 

Heterosexual individuals who have had more than one sexual partner in the previous 6 months and/or those with a recent episode of a sexually transmitted disease Sexually active homosexual or bisexual males Hemodialysis patients... 

What is important for us to understand is that the gender of the brain can be pushed by hormones in one direction while the sexuality of the genitals is pushed in another direction. The various interdependent hormones active during development comprise a complex system of chemical messengers—and the system is vulnerable to environmental impacts. For example, the insecticide dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane (DDT), in wide use since the 1960s, may be involved in the world-wide increase in the prevalence of transsexuals and homosexuals.12 The impact... 

The laws of our states prohibit homosexual behavior in much the same way as the laws of fifteenth-century Spain prohibited the practice of the Jewish religion. The results are also analogous. In Spain, the number of persons who admitted to being Jewish decreased precipitously, but vast numbers of individuals, called Judaizers, practiced their forbidden religion in secret. Similarly, while there are few self-confessed homosexuals in our society, many persons practice their prohibited sexual activities in secret. It is usually estimated that at least lo percent of American men and women are homosexuals. In addition, there are supposed to be many others who would like to engage in the heretical practice, but refrain because they fear the consequences and prefer conformity. 

Document No. 2, Employment of Homosexuals and Other Sex Perverts in Government, issued in 1951 by the U.S. Civil Service Commission, states, in part There is no place in the United States Government tor persons who violate the laws or the accepted standards of morality. . . those who engage in acts of homosexuality and other perverted sex activities are unsuitable tor employment in tbe Federal Government. (Cory, The Homosexual in America, p. 275.)... 

The physicians who examined Boutilier and reported their findings to the Government were thus not expected to diagnose their subject but to decide whether he fitted into an exclusionary standard set by Congress. Is this a morally legitimate activity for physicians If, as it appears, they merely rubber-stamp a decision made by nonmedical personnel, what is their real function The answer to this question throws further light on the degraded status of the homosexual in American law.
