Homing receptors

The integrin a 4(3 7 is restricted to leukocytes and can bind not only to VCAM1 and fibronectin, but also to MAdCAM the mucosal addressin or homing receptor, which contains immunoglobulin-like domains related to VCAM-1.

A. Selectins are a family of so-called homing receptors that include P-selectin (platelet selectin), E-se-lectin (endothelial cell selectin), and L-selectin (leukocyte selectin). They are involved in the homing of lymphocytes to lymph nodes. Selectins support leukocy te-endotheUal cell and leukocyte-platelet adhesion and mediate the migration of neutrophil granulocytes in developing inflammatory reactions. Selectins bind at least three broad categories of natural or synthetic carbohydrates [195].
