A method of aspirating cells from the tumor via insertion of a small-bore needle into the lesion and aspirating. Commonly used to evaluate lymph nodes or other poorly accessible sites, it has the advantage of being faster and less invasive than other biopsy methods however, it does not preserve the architecture of the tumor and may return cells that are undergoing cell death, which negates histologic analysis.

Another study in Fischer rats demonstrated that MSCs do not elicit an immune response after transplantation in immunocompetent recipients. Syngeneic Fischer MSCs or allogeneic ACI MSCs were implanted via an osteoconductive matrix into the bilateral femoral gap of Fischer rats who were then sacrificed at 3, 6 and 12 weeks post-implantation (n = 4 per time point). Histological analysis showed there was no difference between the syngeneic or allogeneic implants. Allogeneic implants did not induce significant inflammatory cell infiltration or stimulate alloreactive T-cell responses [656702]. 

The hair of the back of the head was mechanically removed from an area of 3 x 4 cm under ether anaesthesia. The skin was dissected to the fascia. After the operation the wound was daily treated with a 5% ointment consisting of the appropriate silatrane and a vaseline-lanolin base until complete microscopic healing. The wounds of the control animals were covered only with the vaseline-lanolin mixture. The other control group was not treated at all. The wounds were examined daily and measured until complete healing. Then the animals were killed. From the wound area a piece of skin was taken for a histological analysis. 

Additionally, tissues from 6 monkeys (3 controls and 3 killed on postischemic day 5) were embedded in paraffin and processed for routine histological analysis.

Before beginning the terminal collection procedures have all serum separation tubes for blood collection labeled and all tubes for tissue collection labeled and filled with 5-10 ml 10% formalin (3.7% formaldehyde). Organs from the same mouse can be pooled in the same tube as they can simply be embedded in a single block for histological analysis. 

Hind paws are cut of at the hips, as it is of great importance to keep the knee joint intact for histological analysis. Skin is removed.

Arterial restenosis occurs in 30-40% of patients after angioplasty. The dilated vessel subsequently narrows again because of neointimal hyperplasia. We introduced HVJ liposome containing ec-NOS expression vector into injured rat carotid artery [20], At 2 weeks after the transfer, histological analysis revealed a 70% reduction in neointimal area. In contrast, no inhibition of neointima formation was observed in the control vector transfection group.

The long-term (three months) safety study was carried out on Yucatan mini-pigs using two doses of batimastat loaded on the 15 mm BiodivYsio stent in comparison to a control stent without batimastat, as outlined in Table 2. The evaluation criteria included vessel lumen area, neointimal thickness and area, absence/presence of thrombus, angiographic percent stenosis, and lumen loss. The QCAand histological analysis at three months follow-up are presented in Table 3. 

The five-day, one-, and three-month preclinical data are available for PC-stents loaded with the CTD of batimastat. Histological analysis showed that the degree of fibrosis, hemorrhages, and inflammatory cell infiltration was not significantly different between the control and CTD stents at all three time points. Five-day and one-month data are available for stents containing greater than three times the CTD. Taken together, these studies demonstrate that the Biod/VY s/o Batimastat Stent is well tolerated in appropriate animal... 

The lung should not be frozen without O.C.T. The O.C.T protects the tissue and it is important to have intact tissue for the histological analysis.
