Helicopter view

Seeing the whole picture taking a helicopter view, managing time and other resources, anticipating reactions from stakeholders, spotting links and unexpected events. 

Helicopter view- someone able to see the broader picture, within which the project needs to fit. 

Obviously, the emphasis is on developing the higher-order abilities crucial for sound decision making. Some of the core competencies for ESD include critical thinking, futures thinking and systemic thinking. These are expected to provide the much needed helicopter view that is vital for sound decision making.

One of the most important possible applications of the LQL inversion technique is the interpretation of frequency-domain helicopter-borne data. This type of airborne survey is used extensively in mining exploration. We use the integral equation code SYSEM (Xiong, 1992) to simulate such a survey over a conductive (20 ohm-m) dipping dike located in a resistive (500 ohm-m) half-space. Five lines were flown over the target at an altitude of 30 m and at a distance of 25 m from each other. A schematic plan view of the survey is shown in Fig. (10-1).

The geologists who accompanied Robert Scott and Ernest Shackleton to Antarctica were amazed when they entered the mountains of southern Victoria Land and discovered the ice-free valleys such as Wright Valley in Fig. 10.1 (Sections 1.4, 2.3, and 3.1). The modem traveler entering the ice-free valleys by helicopter from McMurdo is similarly affected because the wide U-shaped valleys present a familiar view of sandy plains dotted with lakes and ponds filled with liquid water and of meltwater streams that flow from alpine glaciers descending from the high mountain ranges that frame these valleys.

The sequence of theories developed throughout the foregoing chapters, leading the way from piezoelectric composites via adaptive laminated composite shells to adaptive thin-walled beams, allows for examinations of almost arbitrary complexity. The attempt to provide examples for the full spectrum of capabilities will be dropped in favor of an application-oriented approach. Hence, the subsequent investigations will be carried out in view of the integral actuation of structures with certain similarity to helicopter rotor blades.
