Green waste" compost from a municipal composting plant ... [Pg.34]

Green waste compost Low fertility. Dig in or mulch. Available from large-scale municipal recycling centers may be low in nitrogen but high in potassium. [Pg.35]

The solid output of the mash separation unit has a particle size >10 mm and joins the oversized fraction of the first 80 mm screening step for composting. They are mixed with the solid digestate and with the oversized lignocellulosic fraction originating from a parallel green waste composting process. [Pg.547]

Green waste compost with polistyrene pellets (1 1 v/v) Coarse sand overlain by fine 250-500 g m-y-i 242 g m"2d" 203 g m"2d" Field experiment carried out on model landfill gas. Passive aeration Averages values Powelson et al. (2006)... [Pg.87]

Design the product for a secondary use so that it has a market value at end of life. Composting of municipal green waste to produce garden compost is an attempt to balance waste disposal costs by producing a valuable product. [Pg.61]

Denmark Organic household waste compost with no classification up to now. No quality criteria for green/yard waste compost necessary. [Pg.336]

Coarse-grade municipal compost (recycled green waste), which is quicker to degrade than bark or wood chips. For perennial beds only. [Pg.72]

Left) Compost pile hygiene The heat generated by the process of decay will kill many pathogens, but material infected with certain very persistent diseases, such as clubroot, should be taken to a green waste recycling center. [Pg.92]

One of the greatest threats to peat bogs is gardening, as most bagged multipurpose potting mix is peat-based. Peat has become a mainstay of these soils because it is consistent, sterile and low in nutrients. But when peat becomes waterlogged it forms a solid mass that plant roots find hard to penetrate, and it has no benefit as a soil conditioner or a mulch. In recent years, non-peat soils, based on coir, composted wood, bark and green waste and other natural materials, have become widely available. [Pg.121]

The use of green yard waste compost on farmland can lead to a positive environmental impact with lower water usage, lower fertilizer usage, lower herbicide usage, and sequestration. Life cycle impact assessments of environmental concerns from production and application of composted products provide a net positive environmental impact. The use of composting process and products provides a reduction in GHG, human toxicity potential, ecotoxicity potential, and eutrophication potential due to lower use of fertilizers, herbicides, water, and electricity (LCA for Windrow Compost 2006). [Pg.133]
