What are the characteristics of graduate mentors These will depend very much on the focus of the scheme. In terms of organizational level, for example, a more experienced peer-mentor would probably suffice if the purpose of the scheme is induction only. Later, Julian repurchased one of his laboratories and established a nonprofit research organization known as the Julian Research Institute. In collaboration between the Institute and the graduate center of the University of Illinois, Julian directed doctoral dissertation research.
