Global Perspective Program

The Global Perspective Program aims to instill in WPI students and faculty an appreciation of difference and an ability to interact effectively with other peoples and cultures the ability to apply their skills and knowledge across disciplinary, geographic, and political boundaries and an understanding of themselves and what roles they might play, professionally and personally, in an increasingly interconnected world (Vaz, 2008). 

Like most institutions with extensive international program components, WPI maintains a separate division, called the Interdisciplinary and Global Studies Division (IGSD) which has administrative responsibility for the Global Perspective Program. 

Colleen Murphy is an Associate Professor of Law and Philosophy and Director of the Women and Gender in Global Perspectives Program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her research focuses on engineering ethics, the ethics of risk, and transitional justice in post-conflict societies. She is the author of A Moral Theory of Political Reconciliation (Cambridge University Press). Professor Murphy was a Laurance S. Rockefeller Visiting Faculty Fellow at the Princeton University Center for Human Values. Her research has received financial support from the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Qatar National Research Fund.

The last area addressed by the systems approach is concerned with global issues involving the influence of organizational factors on human error. The major issues in this area are discussed in Chapter 2, Section 7. The two major perspectives that need to be considered as part of an error reduction program are the creation of an appropriate safety culture and the inclusion of human error reduction within safety management policies. 

SAICM has an emphasis on combining the perspectives of chemical safety and national development. Hopefully, this emphasis in combination together with the funding instrument of the Quick Start Program could help in dealing with this combination. Similarly, and with much more economic clout, the Global Environment Facility (GEF) has modified its focal area strategies to include ... 

As a perspective, we intend to be involved in more educational activities in partnership with international institutions, combining different programs and projects, for a larger pallet of subjects of interest, and to promote networking, as a solution for a global approach of the themes.
