A box or fitting must be installed at each conductor sphce connection point, receptacle, switch, junction point, or pull point for the connection of conduit system. In Division 1 areas only explosion-proof boxes or fittings are allowed. General purpose gasketed cover type fittings are allowed in Division 2 areas. [Pg.535]

The leaks that lead to explosions in compressor houses are often not from a compressor but from other equipment, such as pipe joints. One such leak occurred because a spiral-wound gasket had been replaced by a compressed asbestos fiber one, probably as temporary measure, seven years earlier. Once installed, it was replaced by a similar one during subsequent maintenance [30]. [Pg.69]

When aqueous sodium hydroxide was added to a mixture of the chloride and alcohol at 28°C instead of the normal 5°C, a rapidly accelerating reaction led to rupture of the bursting disc and a gasket, and subsequently to a flash-fire and explosion. [Pg.381]

Dry Method. When Hg fulminate is sifted dry, the operation shall be performed in a location safely removed and/or shielded from other explosives, personnel or material which should be harmed by explosions. The motor of the shaking machine shall be started and stopped by a remote control switch. Assemble a No 100 sieve on a No 200 sieve and fit them on a pan. The sieves must be fitted with rubber gaskets. Place a 5g sample of dry fulminate on ihe upper sieve and shake the sieve for 3 mins on a Tyler Ro-Tap (or equal) machine. Carefully brush the material retained on the upper sieve into a weighing pan and weigh. Calculate the wt as % retained on the No 100 sieve. Brush the material passing thru the... [Pg.611]

Materials incompatibility is one of the most frequent causes of process incidents. Degradation of seals and gaskets that have become softened by solvent effects can lead to minor leaks or major loss of containment, and hence to fires, explosions, or more serious accidents. If seal or gasket leakage is identified in a process, then the plant engineer should consult with the manufacturer to confirm the material is suitable for the service. If necessary, all the seals or gaskets of that material should be replaced with something more resilient to the process conditions. [Pg.491]

Supercritical drying with respect to methanol is not without risk. Several years ago, the main gasket of a 3000 / autoclave in the Swedish production facility at Lund failed, and more than 1000 / hot methanol leaked into the building. The following explosion destroyed the entire facility. [Pg.315]

Type 9 enclosures are intended for use indoors in atmospheres defined as Class II and Group E, F or G in the National Electrical Code. The letters E, F or G, which indicate the dust atmospheres in the hazardous location, must appear as a suffix to the designation Type 9, to give the complete NEMA designation. These enclosures prevent the ingress of explosive amounts of hazardous dust. If gaskets are used, they must be mechanically attached and of a non-combustible, non-deteriorating, vermin-proof material. [Pg.264]

If the device is not designed to use a heat resistant material, a loss of its functionality during reflow soldering may occur. The lithium alloy may react with the electrolytic solution and other components of the battery to cause abrupt bulging or explosion. Therefore, materials resistant to the reflow temperature must be used for the electrolytic solution, separator, or gasket... [Pg.226]

For the gasket, instead of PP, poly(phenylene sulfide), poly(ethyl-ene terephthalate), poly(amide), liquid crystal polymer, tetrafluoroethyl-ene/perfluoroalkyl vinyl ether copolymer resin, PEEK, and poly(ether nitrile) have been found to be free of explosions and other drawbacks at the reflow temperature." ... [Pg.227]

If parts are critical, additional test certificates will be claimed from the suppliers. All gaskets and piping parts have to fulfil the requirements of the pressure vessels guideline (Druckbehalter VO 97 3/EC). An independent ventilation system paired with leak detection will guarantee that no explosive gas mixes can appear at any time during operation. [Pg.219]
