Shaking machines

The mechanical shaking machine is employed for auto matic mixing of heterogeneous systems and finds many applications in the organic chemistry laboratory. [Pg.69]

Numerous forms are available, but these are generally expensive. A simple, efficient but inexpensive shaking machine, which can easily be constructed by a competent... [Pg.69]

By treatment with anhydrous aluminium chloride (Holmes and Beeman, 1934). Ordinary commercial, water-white benzene contains about 0 05 per cent, of thiophene. It is first dried with anhydrous calcium chloride. One litre of the dry crude benzene is shaken vigorously (preferably in a mechanical shaking machine) with 12 g. of anhydrous aluminium chloride for half an hour the temperature should preferably be 25-35°. The benzene is then decanted from the red liquid formed, washed with 10 per cent, sodium hydroxide solution (to remove soluble sulphur compounds), then with water, and finally dried over anhydrous calcium chloride. It is then distilled and the fraction, b.p. 79-5-80-5°, is collected. The latter is again vigorously shaken with 24 g. of anhydrous aluminium chloride for 30 minutes, decanted from the red liquid, washed with 10 per cent, sodium hydroxide solution, water, dried, and distilled. The resulting benzene is free from thiophene. [Pg.173]

Apparatus 100-ml round-bottomed flask with a stopper, and shaking machine (vibrator), or a lOQ-ml round-bottomed flask with a mechanical stirrer. [Pg.101]

A. a-Methoxyphenasine condensation). Two hundred grams (0.42 mole) of powdered lead dioxide (Note 1) is added to a solution of 10 g. (0.07 mole) of pyrogallol monomethyl ether (p. 90) in 3 1. of dry benzene in a 1-gal. narrow-necked acid bottle. The bottle and contents are placed in a shaking machine and shaken for 10-20 minutes (Note 2). The reddish brown solid is filtered through an 11-cm. Buchner funnel, and the filter cake is washed once with 400 ml. of benzene. To this filtrate there is added, immediately and with mechanical stirring, a solution of 6 g. (0.06 mole) of o-phenylenediamine (Note 3) in a mixture of 80 ml. of glacial acetic acid and 200 ml. of benzene. The solu-... [Pg.86]

To 100 ml of a sterile nutrient broth (composed of Bacto-beef extract, 3 g Bacto-peptone, 5 g per liter of tap water) in a 300 ml flask is added one loopful of the incubated culture and the broth mixture is further incubated for 24 hours at 28°C on a shaking machine. [Pg.942]

For powders which may be classified dangerous, such as finely divided Ti and Zr and mixts containing these powders, the shaking machine should be grounded and wherever. possible the operation carried out behind a suitable barricade by remote control. Operators should observe all safety precautions, including the use of proper clothing, and a liq antistatic agent should be used to coat the screens and frames. [Pg.503]

This correlation was obtained as a result of extensive measurements with shake flasks of volume = 100-2000 ml and corresponding inner diameter dg= 6.1-16 cm, a filled volume ofVL= (0.04-0.2)V, and eccentricity of shaking machine of 25 and 50 mm. [Pg.44]

DIN ISO 8780-2-1990 Dispergieren mit einer Schiittelmaschine. Dispersion using an oscillatory shaking machine. [Pg.116]

If necessary the absorption can also be brought about in a thick-walled flask fixed in an upright position on a shaking machine after the air has been driven out by the acetylene the rubber stopper through which the delivery tube passes is fastened down with wire. [Pg.209]

Apparatus 1-1 round-bottomed flask, connected through well-fixed rubber vacuum tubes to a U-like tube filled with mercury and a cylinder of oxygen the flask is fixed on a platform which is moved by a shaking machine. [Pg.222]

Instead, of stirring the mixture after the addition of the sodium hydroxide, the bottle may be securely, stoppered and shaken on a shaking machine for the same length of time. [Pg.18]

Dry Method. When Hg fulminate is sifted dry, the operation shall be performed in a location safely removed and/or shielded from other explosives, personnel or material which should be harmed by explosions. The motor of the shaking machine shall be started and stopped by a remote control switch. Assemble a No 100 sieve on a No 200 sieve and fit them on a pan. The sieves must be fitted with rubber gaskets. Place a 5g sample of dry fulminate on ihe upper sieve and shake the sieve for 3 mins on a Tyler Ro-Tap (or equal) machine. Carefully brush the material retained on the upper sieve into a weighing pan and weigh. Calculate the wt as % retained on the No 100 sieve. Brush the material passing thru the... [Pg.611]

The emulsion is made by violently shaking the constituents in a roomy flask, either by hand or, better, with a shaking machine or by beating them with some form of egg beater. [Pg.175]
