In this section I will just hst some additional available results in relativistic density functional theory  [Pg.140]

Relativistic DFT calculations have been performed for the noble metal dimers Cu2 and Au2 as well as for the transition metal compounds Fe2 and FeO. Separation energies, equihbrium separations, and the oscillator frequency are compared non-relativistic versus relativistic, all electron versus pseudo-potential and LDA versus GGA results. [Pg.140]

A number of solids with heavy constituents have been treated in relativistic DFT. For Au and Pt the linearized augmented plane-wave (LAPW) method has been implemented in order to study relativistic effects in solids (relativistic versus non-relativistic, LDA versus GGA results). Similarly, effects of spin-orbit-coupling have been investigated in bulk W, Ir and Au on the basis of relativistic LDA-LAPW approaches. [Pg.142]

On the basis of quantum hadron-dynamics, a field theoretical meson exchange model, Kohn-Sham and extended Thomas-Fermi investigations of nuclei, in particular trans-uranic systems, have been carried out. Detailed results of relativistic DFT and a full list of references can be [Pg.142]

As I am about to retire from active service , I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people with whom I had the pleasure to work during the last 40 years. In particular, I would like to thank my Portuguese friends Carlos Fiolhais, Joao da Providencia and Jose Urbano for a continuing exchange of ideas over many years. Finally, I would like to thank the organizers of this fascinating Summer School, which attracted young people from all over Europe. [Pg.142]

The good predictive power in respect of conformation is quite remarkable, see in particular the data for tris-(tert-butyl)- methane, TTBM, especially when we emphasize that only 12 variable parameters are used in PEF302 and PEP303 all 0 are locked at the tetrahedral value arcos(-l/3) Comparison with PEF300 is not fair, as that set was not optimised, but I wish to point out that PEP302, with single-atom parameters in the non-bonded part, gives just as [Pg.104]

PEP303 is the same as PEP302, but optimised also on crystal properties, see section 11.6.2. As far as internal properties are concerned, results are only marginally different from those of PEP302. [Pg.104]

In a couple of instances, frequencies of deuterated substances were calculated in PEP302. For ethane-dg the results are not significantly different, see Table 9-3 For Isobutane-d the C-D str was (meas, calc) (2149, 2l80). [Pg.104]

For the slightly pathological case of cyclopentane it is interesting to see that these very simple potential energy functions give a rather nice representation of the structure see also chapter 10. [Pg.104]

To escape aggregative fluidization and move to a circulating bed, the gas velocity is increased further. The fast-fluidization regime is reached where the soHds occupy only 5 to 20% of the bed volume. Gas velocities can easily be 100 times the terminal velocity of the bed particles. Increasing the gas velocity further results in a system so dilute that pneumatic conveying (qv), or dilute-phase transport, occurs. In this regime there is no actual bed in the column. [Pg.73]

Newby et al. found that increasing the PO turbine pressure resulted in higher steam flow (for a given pinch point temperature difference in the HRSG), increased PO turbine power and overall plant efficiency. However, at the highest pressure of 100 bar attempts to increase the steam flow further resulted in incomplete combustion in the main combustor and the overall thermal efficiency did not increase substantially at this pressure level. [Pg.157]

Alloys containing only a few per cent of zinc may fail if the stresses are high and the environment sufficiently corrosive. Most types of brass, besides the plain copper/zinc alloys, appear to be susceptible to stress corrosion. An extensive investigation of the effect of additions to 70/30 brass was carried out by Wilson, Edmunds, Anderson and Peirce , who found that about 1% Si was markedly beneficial. Other additions were beneficial under some circumstances and none of the 36 additions tested accelerated stress-corrosion cracking. Further results are given in later papers ... [Pg.705]

The equation defines V(u), of course, since H is understood to be H(u). The matrix V is unitary. To see this, multiply (7-53) by l/t on the left then multiply the associate (or adjunct) of (7-53), —MVt — Wffi, by U on the right and note that H is hermitian W = H. Subtracting one of the resulting forms from the other gives the further result... [Pg.411]

A further result of Sadler s 2D-simulation was a relation between the step density and growth rate on the one hand and the inclination of the surface with respect to the principal axes on the other. From this relation crystal shapes were derived which show considerable curvature. This result of an exact treatment stands in contrast to Frank s mean-field curvature expression which gives essentially flat profiles. We will return to the discussion of curved edges in Sect. 3.6.3. [Pg.257]

The application of the quantum mechanics to the interaction of more complicated atoms, and to the non-polar chemical bond in general, is now being made (45). A discussion of this work can not be given here it is, however, worthy of mention that qualitative conclusions have been drawn which are completely equivalent to G. N. Lewis s theory of the shared electron pair. The further results which have so far been obtained are promising and we may look forward with some confidence to the future explanation of chemical valence in general in terms of the Pauli exclusion principle and the Heisenberg-Dirac resonance phenomenon. [Pg.60]

A further result of the calculations presented is that, in addition to the but-2-enyl ions, the small alkyl ions are suitable models for the ionic chain ends as well. [Pg.199]

Further results on organotin(IV)-amino acid or 2-amino-2-methyl-l-propanol Schiff base complexes were reported in Refs. (264-271). [Pg.397]

Given that the measured content for a certain product has been within 2% of the theoretical amount over the past, say, 12 batches, the expectation of a further result conforming with previous ones constitutes the so-called null hypothesis, Hq, i.e. no deviation is said to be observed. [Pg.46]

Our work described in this section clearly illustrates the importance of the nature of the cations (size, charges, electronegativities), electronegativity differences, electronic factors, and matrix effects in the structural preferences of polar intermetallics. Interplay of these crucial factors lead to important structural adaptations and deformations. We anticipate exploratory synthesis studies along the ZintI border will further result in the discovery of novel crystal structures and unique chemical bonding descriptions. [Pg.168]

To complete the chemistry of arsenic(IV), and of the induced reactions involving this intermediate, we will mention some further results. [Pg.547]

Figure 1 also shows an Induction period during which the rate of H2 production accelerates. Although this effect Is more pronounced for the hexagonal CdS sample. It Is present In both. Further results, summarized In Fig. 2, emphasize this Induction period. The curves labelled (1) and (2) Involved repeated use of the same film. Between runs (1) and (2) the film was washed In boiling water. [Pg.567]

Metal oxides of variable oxidation state as supports or support modifiers [202] are well known in gold catalysis. In the previous section we have already indicated some metal-support interactions influencing the electronic state of gold nanoparticles as well as the metallic or ionic state of gold. Of the numerous literatures we have to mention Haruta and Date [169], Bond [195], as well as Goodman works [186,203]. Further results can be found on the iron oxide system in recent literatures [162,204]. [Pg.100]

A further result of the increase of power dissipation in the electrons has consequences for the plasma chemistry. Besides the increased ion densities, also the production of radicals will be increased, which may lead to higher deposition rates. [Pg.73]

Further results of introducing cattle are, first, to increase the clover content of the sward, because cattle prefer grass and, second, to increase the proportion of land required for hay or silage for the winter. Cattle often have to be fed hay/silage for six months of the year, whereas sheep require winter feeding for only two months. However, the cattle will produce much more farmyard manure, which can be put back on the pastures that were cut for hay or silage. [Pg.153]

Basically, the effect of a higher fluorine content on the polymer backbone or side chain will be the reduction of polymer chain-chain electronic interactions, which further results in a reduction of DE. This effect was observed by St. Clair et al.,3 but only on the polymer backbone. [Pg.177]

Of special importance is the fact that upon protonation, the M = O bonds along the apical 0 = M-0H and 0 = M-0H2 axes are shortened significantly, coinciding with a weakening of the protonated M-0 bond. This further results in an increase in distortion as observed from the displacement (A) of the metal center from the equatorial plane formed by the four cyano carbon atoms (see Table I). [Pg.62]

Block copolymer/low-MW-molecule complexes were also examined in organic solvents, as recently exemplified by the works of Jiang and coworkers [319,320]. These authors investigated mixtures of PS-P4VP copolymers with various low-MW molecules including perfluorooctanoic acid and formic acid. Such molecules are expected to form hydrogen-bonded complexes with 4VP units in organic solvents such as chloroform. This further resulted in the formation of vesicles. [Pg.134]

The only quantitative work on the polymerisation of isobutene by stannic chloride, with water as co-catalyst, is that of Norrish and Russell [30, 74-76]. Further results, kindly... [Pg.79]

Of the further results of the investigation of the carbon radicles, a field still actively cultivated, only the so-called metal ketyls will be mentioned. These addition products of the alkali metals to ketones are also intensely coloured (Schlenk), e.g. [Pg.354]
