Forward integration

However, in order to achieve these objectives a good interpretation of corporate business needs into achievable R D objectives is essential. In some cases a supplier of a raw material, intermediate or component may choose to forward-integrate their business into production of the finished product. In other cases a manufacturer may wish to backwards-integrate into the production of the raw material(s) required for its current product(s). In either case it is obvious that in order to achieve success a company must make products available to its customers with useful functional properties and at a price that allows cost-effective use of that product in the customer s own products. That is, the product must give the customer s products a competitive advantage. [Pg.468]

Actually a theoretical proof of whether a given DE is stiff or not is rather complicated if not impossible for most DE problems. Therefore it is best to use numerical codes that switch internally to backward integration if forward integration encounters troubles with numerical convergence and vice versa, giving us the best method for either situation. [Pg.277]

Our next task is to rewrite both, the second-order two-DE systems (5.20), (5.19) used in forward integration and the DE system (5.38), (5.39) that is used for backwards integration, in the form of a first-order system of four DEs each. These have the form u = /( ) or v = g(v), respectively with u, v 6 R4. We refer to Section 1.2.2 for the formal reduction of high-order DEs to first-order enlarged systems of DEs. [Pg.278]

Middle East chemical companies are planning aggressive growth, and are in a position to pursue it along the three dimensions of local capacity expansion, portfolio expansion and forward integration, and geographic expansion into new markets. [Pg.93]

On the other hand, the trajectory sensitivity equations method requires simultaneous integration of a greater number of equations than the adjoint system approach. However, it is more stable than the adjoint system approach due to the requirement of forward integration only. It is usually preferred in the area of parameter estimation and sensitivity (Kalogerakis and Luus, 1983 Caracotsios and... [Pg.140]

With the results of the forward integration of the model Equation 5.4 and then by integrating backward the adjoint equations (Equation 5.18) the gradients can be determined from ... [Pg.142]

LaFrance and Grasso [29] report an application of MD methods (again, termed trajectory analysis ) to the dissolved air flotation of nitrocellulose particles of 2.3 fim diameter. This work also neglected Brownian motion considerations, but included electrostatic, van der Waals, the Lewis acid-base interaction forces, and hydrodynamic forces. Lafrance and Grasso found limiting trajectories by successions of forward integrations, and from this calculated the capture efficiency per air bubble as a function of solution chemistry. [Pg.546]

We next turn to process feedback. W e mentioned earlier that a plug-flow reactor can be viewed as a string of small batch reactors. We also pointed out that the result of each batch is uniquely determined by the fresh feeds since the solution to the batch equations is a forward integration in time. A plug-flow7 reactor cannot by itself show output multiplicity or open-loop instability. This picture changes when we... [Pg.89]

Integration of the value chain - by taking advantage of backward or forward integration in the value chain to reduce production costs or to develop new innovative effects. Nalco in water treatment and Sun Chemicals in inks are two examples of this approach. [Pg.56]

They will capture value from new genetically modified crops with improved traits by forward integration into the seed business. In addition, understanding... [Pg.71]

Since transport effects are neglected in equation (19), the equation does not depend on assumptions 8 and 10 of Section 5.2. Clearly, equation (19) can also be made to apply to a system involving any one-step reaction by suitably modifying the definition of F (x, cp). In fact, since transport effects are negligible, the problem of computing the structure of the downstream portion of the detonation wave for any reaction mechanism merely involves a forward integration of a set of equations of the form... [Pg.196]

Here we have used only one dimension for clarity. Equation [152] is solved by straight-forward integration, with the limits of integration being from 0 -> At/2. Everything on the right-hand side is independent of time and the solution is... [Pg.342]

Theory of Computations. Basically, the computations performed were the same as those performed for the Poh- calculations, except that in this case only a forward integration was performed, using the value for Poh- in the appropriate pH range determined in the previous experiments. Here, Equations (4) could be written for three ionic species (OH", Cl", and HC03 ), only two of which are independent. OH" and Cl" were the species chosen since their permeabilities are better known than that of HCO3". Equation (5) was used with all three ions, pHco3-being taken as equal to per (42, 43). The assumptions included those listed previously, and also... [Pg.88]

For the preferred forward integration scheme an efficient control structure using only temperature measurements can be developed as shown in Fig. 13.29. ... [Pg.536]

It is also customary to show the positive direction of movement of the residue curves on the maps [3]. This direction corresponds to the way the tr ectory would be generated during batch boiling, and is therefore related to forward integration towards positive infinity. Thus, the profiles move from the low-boiling component to the high-boiling component, as indicated. [Pg.23]

Forward integration. More control is obtained of distributors or even retailers. [Pg.44]
