Formulations formulas

Copolymers were also used in gramophone record formulations (Formula 6). No filler can be tolerated and stabilisers and lubricants are chosen that give records of minimum surface noise. Antistatic agents may also be incorporated into the compound. [Pg.344]

Since the propellant, which is one of several black powder type formulations (Formula 112), is tightly rammed or more frequently hydraulically pressed, it burns in a progressive, orderly fashion—faster at first, because of the large surface area caused by the long tapered hole and then linearly towards the end plug. It is desirable that the ignition in the rocket head take place exactly at the apex of flight, but this can be difficult in commercial manufacture. [Pg.139]

Relativistic density functional theory can be used for all electron calculations. Relativistic DFT can be formulated using the Pauli formula or the zero-order regular approximation (ZORA). ZORA calculations include only the zero-order term in a power series expansion of the Dirac equation. ZORA is generally regarded as the superior method. The Pauli method is known to be unreliable for very heavy elements, such as actinides. [Pg.263]

In this section we define trace spaces at boundaries and consider Green s formulae. The statements formulated are applied to boundary value problems for solids with cracks provided that inequality type boundary conditions hold at the crack faces. [Pg.49]

Now we are in a position to give a formulation of the boundary value problem. We recall formulae for the transverse force and the bending moment at Tc,... [Pg.235]

Solvents. The most widely used solvent is deionized water primarily because it is cheap and readily available. Other solvents include ethanol, propjdene glycol or butylene glycol, sorbitol, and ethoxylated nonionic surfactants. There is a trend in styling products toward alcohol-free formulas. This may have consumer appeal, but limits the formulator to using water-soluble polymers, and requires additional solvents to solubilize the fragrance and higher levels of preservatives. [Pg.453]

Semipermanent hair color products are formulated at an alkaline pH, usually between 8.5 and 10. At this pH the cuticle of the hair lifts away from the hair a Httie, allowing for easier penetration of dye. An alkyl amine buffered with an organic acid normally is used to obtain the desired pH. The formulations contain a mixture of solvents and surfactants to solubilize the dyes and a thickening agent is added so that the product stays on the hair without mnning or dripping. A 20—30 min appHcation time is normal for this type of product. A representative formula for a semipermanent dye product is given in Table 7. [Pg.456]

Hydrotalcite. Synthetic hydrotalcite minerals are gaining commercial acceptance for thein abiHty to costabiHze PVC ia the presence of other primary stabilizers (see Table 2). The performance of the mixed metal stabilizers are particularly boosted when an equal part level, about 2—3 phr, of hydrotalcite is added to the PVC formulation. These minerals function by trapping HCl within the layered lattice arrangement of atoms. The formula. [Pg.550]

Formulas are very simple. For example, in the case of black they often contain no additives and consist merely of pigment, mineral oil, and asphaltic pitch. Low mb inks are available however, due to economics, a traditional type of formulation based on mineral oil and high stmcture carbon black is predominantly used. [Pg.249]

Functional Blends. The term functional blend refers to various ingredient blends formulated to achieve a certain objective such as fat reduction. An example of this blend consists of water, partially hydrogenated canola oil, hydrolyzed beef plasma, tapioca flour, sodium alginate, and salt. This blend is designed to replace animal fat and is typically used at less than 25% of the finished product. Another functional blend is composed of modified food starch, rice flour, salt, emulsifier, and flavor. A recommended formula is 90% meat (with 10% fat), 7% added water, and 3% seasoning blend... [Pg.34]

The physical properties of finish removers vary considerably due to the diverse uses and requirements of the removers. Finish removers can be grouped by the principal ingredient of the formula, method of appHcation, method of removal, chemical base, viscosity, or hazardous classification. Except for method of apphcation, a paint remover formulation usually has one aspect of each group, by which it can be used for one or more appHcations. A Hst of the most common organic solvents used in finish removers has been compiled (3). Many are mentioned throughout this article others include ethyl lactate [97-64-3] propylene carbonate [108-32-7] furfural alcohol [98-01-1/, dimethyl formamide [68-12-2] tetrahydrofuran [109-99-9] methyl amyl ketone [110-43-0] dipropylene glycol methyl ether [34590-94-8] and Exxate 600, a trade name of Exxon Chemicals. [Pg.550]
