Formulation 4-component system

Sulfur as an Additive for Asphalt. Sulfur-extended asphalt (SEA) binders are formulated by replacing some of the asphalt cement (AC) in conventional binders with sulfur. Binders that have sulfur asphalt weight ratios as high as 50 50 have been used, but most binders contain about 30 wt % sulfur. Greater latitude in design is possible for SEA paving materials, which are three-component systems, whereas conventional asphalt paving materials are two-component systems. Introduction of sulfur can provide some substantial benefits. At temperatures above 130°C, SEA binders have lower viscosities than conventional asphalt. The lower viscosity enables the plant to produce and compact the mix at lower temperatures than with conventional... [Pg.125]

Most polyurethane formulations are two-component systems, meaning they are made from two basic constituents which are mixed together and react to form the final polymer. The two components are an isocyanate (or isocyanate blend) and a polyol (or polyol blend). The isocyanate is often referred to as the A side and the polyol the B side , although some use the opposite convention. [Pg.238]

Here va and va are the stoichiometric coefficients for the reaction. The formulation is easily extended to treat a set of coupled chemical reactions. Reactive MPC dynamics again consists of free streaming and collisions, which take place at discrete times x. We partition the system into cells in order to carry out the reactive multiparticle collisions. The partition of the multicomponent system into collision cells is shown schematically in Fig. 7. In each cell, independently of the other cells, reactive and nonreactive collisions occur at times x. The nonreactive collisions can be carried out as described earlier for multi-component systems. The reactive collisions occur by birth-death stochastic rules. Such rules can be constructed to conserve mass, momentum, and energy. This is especially useful for coupling reactions to fluid flow. The reactive collision model can also be applied to far-from-equilibrium situations, where certain species are held fixed by constraints. In this case conservation laws... [Pg.109]

Substances that have been used as preservatives for disperse systems include chlorocresol, chlorobutanol, benzoates, phenylmercuric nitrate, parabens, and others [76,77]. The use of cationic antimicrobial agents such as quaternary ammonium compounds (e.g., benzalkonium chloride) is contraindicated in many cases because they may be inactivated by other formulation components and/or they may alter the charge of the dispersed phase. Clay suspensions and gels should be adequately preserved with nonionic antimicrobial preservatives. The use of preservatives is generally limited to products that are not intended for parenteral use. Intravenous injectable... [Pg.259]

The instability of DAST-type brighteners towards chlorine-containing bleaches has been mentioned already. They also show limited stability towards per-acids. As recommended washing temperatures have tended to fall in recent years, a bleach consisting of sodium perborate activated by addition of tetra-acetylethylenediamine (11.63) has become an important component of household detergent formulations. This system is effective at temperatures as low as 40-50 °C. Since the FBA may be sensitive to the activated oxidant, however, in some formulations it is necessary to protect compounds such as 11.60 or 11.61 by encapsulating either the brightener or the activator, if adequate shelf-life is to be maintained. [Pg.344]

Product quality, purity and consistency are critically important in the pharmaceutical sector, applying to all stages of the supply chain and final dosed product. The human body is an exceptionally complex system and the full effect of a pharmaceutical product, consisting of the API, impurities and formulation components, is impossible to predict from first principles. The industry relies on rigorous clinical trials to assess drug efficacy, toxicity and side effect profiles. [Pg.25]

Resist materials can be classified as positive or negative on the basis of their radiation response as described in Section 3.1 and illustrated in Figure 1. Both resist types can be subdivided into two categories depending upon the basic nature of their design 1) one-component systems and 2) two-component systems (see Figure 2). One-component systems are polymers that combine radiochemical reactivity with etch resistance and film-forming characteristics. In two component systems, the resist is formulated from an... [Pg.90]

The classical form of the thermodynamic force of diffusion (Xj = — grad /I , /Ij electrochemical potential) can be extended if the influence of diffusion on the momentum transfer is carefully taken into account. This results if the balance equation of momentum for many component systems is formulated as the sum of contributions of all components. The final result is as follows ... [Pg.334]

Positive Photoresists. All positive photoresists used for conventional photolithography are two-component systems and operate on a mechanism that involves destruction of a dissolution inhibitor. These resists are formulated... [Pg.49]

The testing procedures used in this work have all been well described in the literature (4) and are focused on understanding the compression behavior of the powder samples and the mechanical properties of the resulting compacts. These methods are summarized in Table 1. For brevity, we have limited our initial studies to single component systems, but recognize that more work is needed in the future to understand the complex behavior of multicomponent mixtures. The current work should provide a sound basis for further work on such systems. It is intended that this treatise will enable pharmaceutical formulation scientists to better understand the similarities and differences between the most common grades and types of excipients, and will facilitate the rational selection of excipients for use in the development of immediate release tablet formulations. [Pg.128]

With lean waters there is a tendency to operate cooling systems at high cycles of concentration, perhaps 10 to 15x COC, depending on the particular circumstances (including the physical limit of COC for the cooling system under consideration). This not only provides economic benefits but also reduces the highly corrosive nature inherent in most low-calcium waters. A further benefit is that a high COC may permit the presence of sufficient calcium to serve as a corrosion inhibitor in combination with a silicate, phosphate, or phosphonate formulation component. [Pg.175]

In recent years, interest in multiple-layered tablets as an oral controlled release system has increased. Multiple-layered tablets have some obvious advantages compared with conventional tablets. In addition to avoiding chemical incompatibibties of formulation components by physical separation, release profiles may be modified by combining layers with different release patterns or by combining slow release with immediate release layers. If the core layer of multilayered tablet is completely covered by a surrounding layer, the product is commonly referred to as a dry-coated tablet. An example is the Smartrix tablet, in which the release profile of a drug is determined by the increase in release surface caused by erosion (dissolution) of the cover layers.39... [Pg.168]

In a multi-component system such as the cell environment, many factors are interconnected, and a specific compound may be essential in some but not all situations. Although an initial medium formulation is often based on the composition of the circulating fluid of the organism, some nutrients essential for metabolic activity in tissues and organs may be completely unnecessary for in vitro cell proliferation. [Pg.122]
