ABS foam compositions have been developed that contain about 10 parts of a foam modifier and 0.5-2.0 parts of a blowing agent. Sodium bicarbonate is a suitable blowing agent. The foaming modifier is preferably adapted to decrease the foam density and to increase the foam swell of the composition (82). In particular, the foam modifier consists of SAN. The ingredients are admixed and then extruded. Articles with a specific gravity of 0.3-0.47 gem-3 are obtained. [Pg.236]

Also phosphorus- and nitrogen-containing polyols are shown to be effective in flame retardancy of PU foams24 such as polyols based on phosphonic acid ester or obtained by partial or full substitution of methylol groups of tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium chloride with amine several examples of such polyols were reported by Levchik and Weil.15 Rigid PU foam modified with these polyols showed improved oxygen index values moreover better results were achieved with higher functionality polyols. [Pg.765]

Other types of isocyanate-based polymer foams, such as polyiso-cyanurate foams modified by oxazolidone, carbodiimide or imide linkages, have outstanding properties in flame retardance and fire endurance without the addition of any flame retardants... [Pg.40]

There have been multiple efforts toward supported catalysts for asymmetric transfer hydrogenation, and the 4 position on the aryl sulfonate group of 26 has proven a convenient site for functionalization. Thus far, this ligand has been supported on dendrimers [181,182], polystyrenes [183], silica gel [184], mesoporous siliceous foam [185], and mesoporous siliceous foam modified with magnetic particles [186]. The resulting modified ligands have been used in combination with ruthenium, rhodium, and iridium to catalyze the asymmetric transfer of imines and, more commonly, ketones. [Pg.208]

Betaines act as foam modifiers, changing the loose and lacy foams normally generated by lauryl and laureth sulfates to thick and creamy lathers. They also help to thicken shampoo formulations and lower eye and skin irritation [21,22],... [Pg.382]

An important reason besides cleaning for using combinations of primary and secondary surfactants is to improve the quality and volume of foam. As discussed in Section II.A.2, some secondary surfactants such as betaines, amine oxides, and fatty alkanolamides also act as foam modifiers. They change the foams from a loose lacy structure generated by lauryl and laureth sulfates to rich and creamy foams. [Pg.395]
