Film-coating plasticizers

Packaging paper and plastics film, coated and laminated... [Pg.54]

There are many applications in which it is necessary to put a plastic coating on to paper or metal sheets and the extruder provides an ideal way of doing this. Normally a thin film of plastic is extruded from a slit die and is immediately brought into contact with the medium to be coated. The composite is then passed between rollers to ensure proper adhesion at the interface and to control the thickness of the coating (see Fig. 4.26). [Pg.273]

Parylene The melting point of these film and coating plastics ranges from 290 to 400° C (554 to 752°F), and Tg from 60 to 100°C (14 to 212°F). Their cryogenic performances are excellent. Physical properties are unaffected by thermal cycles from 2°K to room temperature. Good thermal endurance in air, absence... [Pg.427]

Electroplating is the electrolytic deposition of a thin film of metal on an object. The object to be electroplated (either metal or graphite-coated plastic) constitutes the cathode, and the electrolyte is an aqueous solution of a salt of the plating metal. Metal is deposited on the cathode by reduction of ions in the electrolyte solution. These cations are supplied either by the added salt or from oxidation of the anode, which is made of the plating metal (Fig. 12.16). [Pg.635]

Electrodeposition has been attempted also on flexible substrates within the scope of fabricating flexible solar cells. Huang et al. [177] investigated the electrodeposition of CIS on Au-coated plastic substrate from aqueous acidic (pH 1.65) solutions of millimolar CuCh, InCb, Se02, containing triethanolamine and sodium citrate. Stoichiometric, semiconductive CIS films (Eg = 1.18 eV) were obtained after annealing at 150 °C in nitrogen. [Pg.117]

Foil balloons are derived from the effort of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Space Command with the concept and technology to metalizate plastic sheeting. While the balloons are often referred to as Mylar or silver Mylars, they are not made from Mylar, a trade name for certain polyester film. They should be simply referred to as foil balloons. They are made from nylon film coated on one side with PE and metallized on the other. The nylon film gives the balloon some strength and the PE gives it some flexibility and helps retard the release of the held gas. [Pg.293]

Caprolactam is used primarily in the manufacture of synthetic fibres and resins (especially nylon 6), bristles, film, coatings synthetic leather, plasticizers and paint vehicles as a cross-linking agent for polyurethanes and in the synthesis of the amino acid lysine (Lewis, 1993). [Pg.384]

The primary coating materials, usually polymeric (film formers), often require the addition of other excipients such as plasticizers, pore formers, colorants, or antiaggregation agents for the coating to perform in the desired fashion or for the product to be manufactured conveniently.2 These components have been the subject of numerous studies and reviews.31,32 The components that affect/modify the release from these systems are film formers, plasticizers, and pore formers and are discussed below. [Pg.157]

Other excipients used in film-coating may influence the dissolution of the polymers [36], For instance, plasticizers may increase or decrease dissolution rate, depending on whether a lipophilic or a hydrophilic plasticizer was used. Using this effect, the time-to-action of a drug may be improved (e.g., by using a hydrophilic plasticizer like triethyl citrate). Usually these effects are not detectable, if... [Pg.22]
