SNR s fluidized-bed cogeneiation system is an early example of the commercial development of AFBC technology. Foster Wheeler designed, fabricated, and erected the coal-fired AFBC/boHer, which generates 6.6 MWe and 37 MW thermal (also denoted as MWt) of heat energy. The thermal energy is transferred via medium-pressure hot water to satisfy the heat demand of the tank farm. The unit bums 6.4 t/h of coal and uses a calcium to sulfur mole ratio of 3 to set the limestone feed rate. The spent bed material may be reiajected iato the bed as needed to maintain or build bed iaventory. The fly ash, collected ia two multicyclone mechanical collectors, may also be transferred pneumatically back to the combustor to iacrease the carbon bumup efficiency from 93%, without fly ash reiajection, to 98%.

One of the most important aspects of designing a successful worker exposure or re-entry study is the selection of the agricultural site at which to perform the study. One must first define the growing region in which the pesticide is to be used to the widest extent possible. This is important since this region would have the most farms, farmers, commercial applicators, or re-entry workers which would have work habits, equipment, and land, which would best represent the use of the product. 

Performance trials are conducted to determine the use pattern required for effective pesticide performance. Much effort goes into determining the minimum effective rate. Usually, about 30 trials are required per major pest. Initial performance testing is usually conducted on company research farms. For crops and pests that cannot be handled internally, contractors are used. The differences between residue and performance trials create difficulties in designing an electronic system that can handle both smdy types well.

A field operator exposure study was designed to accommodate the chemical properties and the use pattern involved in the treatment of potato crops for protection against the Colorado potato beetle. Fifteen farmworkers experienced in the use of tractor-drawn sprayers for application of crop protection materials to crops were selected. All were adult males. To avoid production of a large quantity of treated potato crop prior to registration of the product for sale, the trials were performed on stubble fields after harvest of winter wheat crops in a potato-growing area of southern Ontario. This allowed the use of typical farm spray equipment and a typical duration of exposure for a complete shift of work. 

It is very easy to understand that attempting to design and conduct research trials to ascertain the effect of one or multiple changes on production, economics, and GHG emissions from a dairy production system would be expensive and time consuming.
