External potential separated wells

The capabilities of classical spectrometers, which generate low order spectra by using either concave or plane gratings, are well known from LS AAS and other analytical techniques [73,150]. They undoubtedly offer interesting features for a variety of applications characterized particularly by low or medium spectral resolution. But it will be shown in the following sections that only specially designed echelle spectrometers with either internal or external order separation in combination with modern solid-state detectors have the potential to meet all of the requirements listed above for HR-CS AAS. [Pg.34]

Capillary electrophoretic separations are performed in small diameter tubes, made of Teflon, polyethylene, and other materials. The most frequently used material is fused silica. Fused silica capillaries are relatively inexpensive and are available in different internal and external diameters. An important advantage of a fused silica capillary is that the inner surface can be modified easily by either chemical or physical means. The chemistry of the silica surface is well established due to the popularity of silica surfaces in gas chromatography (GC) and liquid chromatography (LC). In capillary electrophoresis, the silica surface is responsible for the EOF. Using surface modification techniques, the zeta potential and correspondingly the EOF can be varied or eliminated. Column fabrication has been done on microchips.13... [Pg.392]

It contains parameters related to the solid-state (i.e., Ex) as well as to the chemical part(i.e., namL, jcq) of the sensor. Because the reference electrode is physically separate from the ISFET, its potential is not included in the threshold voltage. However, that choice is rather arbitrary. Whether the actual output follows (6.65) or (6.66) depends on the externally applied gate voltage Eg, which has nothing to do with the... [Pg.159]

Well-defined products from the chaotic turmoil, which is a chemical reaction, result from a balance between external thermodynamic factors and the internal molecular parameters of chemical potential, electron density and angular momentum. Each of the molecular products, finally separated from the reaction mixture, is a new equilibrium system that balances these internal factors. The composition depends on the chemical potential, the connectivity is determined by electron-density distribution and the shape depends on the alignment of vectors that quenches the orbital angular momentum. The chemical, or quantum, potential at an equilibrium level over the entire molecule, is a measure of the electronegativity of the molecule. This is the parameter that contributes to the activation barrier, should this molecule engage in further chemical activity. Molecular cohesion is a holistic function of the molecular quantum potential that involves all sub-molecular constituents on an equal basis. The practically useful concept of a chemical bond is undefined in such a holistic molecule. [Pg.287]
