Extension systems

Companies may wish to develop workshops to train potential team members in the inherent safety review process. The workshop can provide background information on inherent safety concepts, the extensive systems required to manage hazardous materials, and information on the inherent safety review process. Videos, problems, examples, and team exercises can be included to enliven the education process.

Scientists measure many different quantities—length, volume, mass (weight), electric current, temperature, pressure, force, magnetic field intensity, radioactivity, and many others. The metric system and its recent extension, Systeme International d Unites (SI), were devised to make measurements and calculations as simple as possible. Tazarotene (Tazorac) is a synthetic retinoid that is hydrolyzed to its active metabolite, tazarotenic acid, which modulates keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation. It is available as a 0.05% or 0.1% gel and cream and is applied once daily (usually in the evening) for mild to moderate plaque psoriasis. Adverse effects are dose- and frequency related and include mild to moderate pruritus, burning, stinging, and erythema. Application of the gel to eczematous skin or to more than 20% of body surface area is not recommended because this may lead to extensive systemic absorption. Tazarotene is often used with topical corticosteroids to decrease local adverse effects and increase efficacy.

There are many excellent books on Excel in general, and the package in itself is associated with an extensive system. It is not the purpose of this text to duplicate these books, which in themselves are regularly updated as new versions of Excel become available, but primarily to indicate features that the user of advanced data analysis might find useful. The examples in this book are illustrated using Office 2000, but most features are applicable to Office 97, and are also likely to be upwards compatible. It is assumed that the reader already has some experience in Excel, and the aim of this section is to indicate some features that will be useful to the scientific user of Excel, especially the chemometrician. This section should be regarded primarily as one of tips and hints, and the best way forward is by practice. There are comprehensive help facilities and Websites are also available for the specialist user of Excel. The specific chemometric Add-ins available to accompany this text are also described.
