Extended operations

CVD reactors can have one of several configurations. Each has particular advantages and disadvantages. Reactors that support wafers horizontally have difficulty controlling the deposition uniformity over all the exposed wafers. Reactors having vertical wafer support produce uniform deposition, but are mechanically complex. Barrel reactors are not suited for extended operation at temperatures greater than 1200°C. [Pg.346]

All RBMK reactors have positive void coefficients which means that increasing the boiling rate increases the steam fraction in the core which increases reactivity causing more steam void which causes more reactivity and so on. Competing factors provide stability, but startup, shutdown and maneuvering below about 600 MWt are unstable, hence, there is a rule prohibiting extended operation below 700 Mwt. [Pg.224]

The efficiency of power generation is significantly reduced by any deposits formed on the turbine blades by BW carryover and severe turbine damage may also result. Tiirbine efficiency also is reduced by demands for output that exceed the rated maximum and by extended operation beyond the maintenance period or design life. Additionally, errors in steam flow meters, thermometers, and pressure gauges, and so forth cause the control system to regulate the generation of electricity at some further reduced level. [Pg.21]

To verify that steady state catalytic activity had been achieved, the catalyst was allowed to operate uninterrupted for approximately 8 hours. The catalyst was then removed from the reactor and the surface investigated by XPS. The results are shown in Figure 2c. The two major changes in the XPS spectrun were a shift in the iron 2p line to 706.9 eV and a new carbon Is line centered at 283.3 eV. This combination of iron and carbon lines indicates the formation of an iron carbide phase within the XPS sampling volume.(J) In fact after extended operation, XRD of the iron sample indicated that the bulk had been converted to FecC2 commonly referred to as the Hagg carbide.(2) It appears that the bulk and surface are fully carbided under differential reaction conditions. [Pg.127]

GP 8[ [R 7[ The structure of the rhodium catalyst changed during operation. Owing to the microfabrication process (thin-wire pEDM), the surface of the micro channels was rough before catalytic use [3]. After extended operational use, small crystallites are formed, especially in oxygen-rich zones such as the micro channels inlet. Thereby, the surface area is enlarged by a factor of 1-1.5. [Pg.323]

Centrifugal force is used to introduce molten metal into a mold cavity that is spinning around its axis. Cast iron pipe is produced in centrifugal molds, and copper-base alloy bearings are also commonly produced this way. Permanent metal molds are usually coated or lined to extend operating life. [Pg.157]

Finally, the presence of an HRI overlay on a LPG with a reduced cladding radius has been numerically investigated revealing a potentially higher sensitivity and an extended operational range39 40. [Pg.50]

As mentioned in this review, AMPLEDs are especially attractive for motion picture applications. The Pay-Per-View effect in OLED displays reduces power consumption and extends operation lifetime. Motion picture applications also minimize image retention and optimize display homogeneity. AMOLED has been widely viewed as a promising display technology in competing with AMLCD and plasma displays. The dream of using organic semiconductor films for optoelectronic device applications has become a reality. [Pg.35]

Ixmaceous bonded phases such asjoetyl and octadecyl silica are relatively stable in contact with most aqueous eluents having a pH value less than 8. Nevertheless, funJter improvement in the stability of such stationary phases would be highly desirable in order to obtain columns of extended operational life. [Pg.61]

To reduce the emissions during cold start of the engine and extended operation at low loads in vehicles, it has been proposed to use the so-called fast SCR reaction in which NH3 reacts with NO and NO2 according to... [Pg.409]

Experimental work to date confirms that the MTO process, which is an extension of fluid-bed MTG technology, has been scaled up successfully in a 4 BPD fluid-bed pilot plant at Mobil s Paulsboro Laboratory. Product yields and catalyst performance were nearly identical to those of bench top microunits. The process is currently being demonstrated in the 100 BPD fluid-bed semi-works plant in Germany. The plant was started up February, 1985 after completing modifications required to enable extended operation at MTO conditions. [Pg.39]

The CHEMIC process does not effectively remove arsenic from solution. Removal efficiency for arsenic is only about 10 to 35%. Also, the ultrafiltration membranes used in the process can become fouled due to compaction of the membrane, physical aging by extended operation, and plugging of the membrane pores by particles. [Pg.381]

Due to the Helmholtz-Lagrange relation, no greater flexibility in the parameters determining the image is possible. However, lenses with even more elements than four can have other advantages, such as lower aberration or a more extended operation range. (See, for example, the movable electrostatic lens in [Rea83].)... [Pg.136]

A tungsten sulfide catalyst which had been inactivated by extended operation had, as expected, a considerably lower adsorption capacity than new catalyst. This is shown in Fig. 3 for the adsorption of ethane at 100°C. The adsorption rate of gases on used, inactive WS2 catalyst seems to be decreased to an even greater extent. [Pg.250]

The TACAN Corporation has evaluated the stability of drive voltage and bias voltage under conditions of extended operation and for irradiation with light of different wavelengths and optical power levels [306, 307]. The performance of polymer modulators was reasonably good and systematically improved as lattice hardness increased (see Figs. 6,20 and 34). We have observed comparable stability. [Pg.63]
