Exploratory development objectives

The first main objective towards the exploratory development of these agents was to accomplish selectivity for P-receptors with respect to a-receptors. 

Once objectives have been defined, a study protocol including an appropriate QA/QC program is developed. Initially, both literature and information searches should be made. If possible, selected field measurements based on an assumed dispersion model can also be made. The objective of the exploratory study is to obtain the best possible answers to the following questions. 

The objective of the present work was to develop a deacidification process which could be applied simultaneously to a substantial number of books and be much more reasonable in time and cost than the singlepage procedures. The exploratory phase of the project was started in 1970 the past six years work have culminated in a process which inexpensively deacidifies about 85 lb of books in 60 min and which substantially retards their subsequent deterioration rate. 

Abstract Modeling of the drift-scale heater test at the Exploratory Studies Facility at Yucca Mountain, Nevada, U.S.A. was performed. The objectives of the analysis were to investigate the (i) temperature effects on mechanical deformation surrounding the heated drift and (ii) thermal-mechanical effects on rock-mass permeability. The continuum representation of a deformation-permeability relationship based on fracture normal stress was developed to assess rock-mass permeability variations because of temperature changes. The estimated rock-mass displacements and permeability variations as a function of heating time were compared with field measurements. The estimated trend of permeability responses using a normal stress-based deformation-permeability relationship compared reasonably to that measured. 

A primary goal of the Cooperative Research Program at Dow is to identify and develop cooperative exploratory research between Dow scientists and academic scientists with the objective of establishing technical bases for new Dow businesses. An additional goal is to strengthen the professional ties of Dow scientists with their academic colleagues and thus broaden their overall research perspectives. 

In 1999, the National Science Foundation held a workshop to address the issue of scalability and enterprise systems (www.eng.nsf.gov/sesAVorkshops/ workshops.html). The workshop resulted in NSF sponsoring exploratory research in the area, with the objective to foster the development of a science base for enterprise-wide business automation . As a result of the workshop, there have been several new research initiatives in this area (www.eng.usf.edu/nsf/ conference/scalable/scalable enterprises/ speakers presentations.html). Summaries of several of the research efforts follow. An excellent summary of research in this area (in much more detail than the speaker presentations) is found in Prabhu, Kumar and Kamath [60]. In addition, a good reference for enterprise modeling techniques for scalability may be found in Kamath et al [47]. 

Learning device-specific actions 68 reports (26%) - 26 Erroneous, 42 Exploratory. Participants were able to identify situations involving a mismatch between a report-able intention and perceived performance. This mismatch was attributed to a lack of knowledge associated with how to interact with objects when a participant believed they knew what they had to do - for example, when a participant knew they had to play a video tape but did not know how to operate the VCR. Participants used exploratory interactions and drew conclusions from errors in order to develop interaction strategies. Participants were willing to disclose when these strategies, learnt from previously successful interactions, did not work.
