Estimating Data

The ratio of motive steam to load gas can be estimated using the correlation below. This relation should be used with caution I It is quite empirical and limited to ideal gases and to saturated steam at pressures below 300 psig. It should be used for values of between 0.5 and 6. [Pg.180]

Because of the unpredictable performance of thermocompressors, control of evaporators using them is more difficult than for a conventional system where it is necessary to set only steam and feed rates to maintain a constant evaporation rate. One way to provide flexibility with better operating stability is to use two or more thermocompressors in parallel. This permits capacity control without loss In energy economy. [Pg.184]

Definitive effort-hour estimating data is used to develop specific detail estimates. Composite effort-hour data is presented as a guide for quick estimating methods. All material quantities have been consolidated into an average for a given amount of material and do not include any specialty items. All effort-hour units and material quantities are based on a typical installation, and each material type should be reviewed carefully for various differences. [Pg.829]

The estimated data are again based to a large extent on affordable cost figures, not necessarily on the best suitability for certain performance requirements. [Pg.69]

In the situation when there is no information apart from the boiling point under atmospheric pressure or even under vacuum, there is the paradoxical situation of having to reconstitute a set of estimated data without having any means whatsoever to check the suitability of the approach. [Pg.46]

The results of an experiment are often shown on a graph that displays the data that has been collected. Graphs can make known facts easier to understand and analyze. With a line graph, it is possible to estimate values for points that fall between those actually measured. This process is called interpolation. Graphs can also be used to estimate data points beyond the measured points through a process called extrapolation. [Pg.13]

Joint Parameter Estimation-Data Reconciliation Problem 166... [Pg.12]

All of the previous ideas are developed further in Chapter 8, where the analysis of dynamic and quasi-steady-state processes is considered. Chapter 9 is devoted to the general problem of joint parameter estimation-data reconciliation, an important issue in assessing plant performance. In addition, some techniques for estimating the covariance matrix from the measurements are discussed in Chapter 10. New trends in this field are summarized in Chapter 11, and the last chapter is devoted to illustrations of the application of the previously presented techniques to various practical cases. [Pg.17]

Chapter 9 deals with the general problem of joint parameter estimation data reconciliation. Starting from the typical parameter estimation problem, the more general formulation in terms of the error-in-variable methods is described, where measurement errors in all variables are considered. Some solution techniques are also described here. [Pg.26]

CHAPTER 9 JOINT PARAMETER ESTIMATION-DATA RECONCILIATION... [Pg.181]

Caution must be used, however, because inexperienced investigators often try to use estimated data instead of actual analyses. While estimates reduce sampling and analysis costs, safe use of estimated data requires that it be conservative. Experienced investigators strike a balance between estimates and field sampling to save costs without sacrificing cleanup levels. [Pg.331]

It is difficult to discuss the accuracy of the thermochemical results reported by Oldani and Bor, because they rely on some estimated data of unknown reliability. Based on a simple model that is used to predict reaction entropy changes, we anticipate that the entropy of reaction 14.21 would be considerably larger than 300 J K-1 mol-1, possibly even higher than 400 J K-1 mol-1 [226]. [Pg.215]

Many of the 25 C oxidation potential estimates of Latimer (54) were obtained simply from a knowledge of what reactions proceed and what do not. Hence preparative and decomposition experiments in simple autoclaves are also of considerable value provided that full experimental details are published. Swaddle s group has performed a number of such studies on the transition metals from which boiler water circuits are made (55,56,57) and also on species of more direct relevance to laboratory studies (58,59,60). Quite trivial unexpected observations in autoclave studies can be used to place limits on equilibrium constants. In complex systems, unique interpretations will usually be impossible but the observations may still prove useful if they can be supplemented by estimated data (10, 61). [Pg.664]

Certified reference materials for C02 became available in 1991 and were used on cruises represented by filled circles. (Note The period 1991-2000 includes 35 cruises, most with no offset.) The simultaneous solution of the equations for ai, 02, and K will yield an a versus X curve if all the underlying parameters were known. To this end, Futerko and Hsing fitted the numerical solutions of these simultaneous equations to the experimental points on the above-discussed water vapor uptake isotherms of Hinatsu et al. This determined the best fit values of x and X was first assumed to be constant, and in improved calculations, y was assumed to have a linear dependence on 02, which slightly improved the results in terms of estimated data fitting errors. The authors also describe methods for deriving the temperature dependences of x and K using the experimental data of other workers. [Pg.322]

For the present data, after replacing outlier values with 4 (ppm, equal to the value of 97% of Au population in data) the relationship between estimated data and reported ones is about 0.6, which make sense, though the amount of data is not enough at all. [Pg.400]

Estimated data have many advantages. Measurements are time-consuming and costly, and in many cases estimates are all that are needed for screening purposes. On the other hand, a minimum of good experimental data is required as a basis for estimates. Estimates are especially important in explosives thermochemistry, because so many of the experimental measurements are buried in difficult-to-reach technical reports and in the classified literature... [Pg.47]

Physical and Chemical Properties. Physical and chemical properties are essential for estimating the partitioning of a chemical in the environment. Many physical and chemical properties are available for isophorone, but most do not have extensive experimental descriptions accompanying the data therefore, an evaluation of the accuracy of the data is difficult. Specifically, measured vapor pressure, K°°, and Henry s Law constant at environmentally significant temperatures would help to remove doubt regarding the accuracy of the estimated data. The data on physical properties form the basis of much of the input requirements for environmental models that predict the behavior of a chemical under specific conditions, including hazardous waste landfills. The data on the chemical properties, on the other hand, can be useful in predicting certain environmental fates of this chemical. [Pg.89]
