When a mixture contains components with a broad range of volatilities, either a partial condensation from the vapor phase or a partial vaporization from the liquid phase followed by a simple phase split often can produce an effective separation. This is in essence a single-stage distillation process. However, by its very nature, a single-stage separation does not produce pure products hence further separation of both liquid and vapor streams is often required. [Pg.106]

In essence the TCMC method consists in the main transformer magnetic flow redistribution between magnetic circuits of the middle one, which composed by uncontrollable lateral yoke and a number of rods leaned on controllable middle yoke and lateral one, composed by the same uncontrollable yoke and rods leaned on lateral yoke. [Pg.430]

In essence, a guided-ion beam is a double mass spectrometer. Figure A3.5.9 shows a schematic diagram of a griided-ion beam apparatus [104]. Ions are created and extracted from an ion source. Many types of source have been used and the choice depends upon the application. Combining a flow tube such as that described in this chapter has proven to be versatile and it ensures the ions are thennalized [105]. After extraction, the ions are mass selected. Many types of mass spectrometer can be used a Wien ExB filter is shown. The ions are then injected into an octopole ion trap. The octopole consists of eight parallel rods arranged on a circle. An RF... [Pg.811]

The essence of NMR spectroscopy is to measure the separation of the magnetic energy levels of a nucleus. [Pg.1470]

For all calculations, the choice of AO basis set must be made carefully, keeping in mind the scaling of the two-electron integral evaluation step and the scaling of the two-electron integral transfonuation step. Of course, basis fiinctions that describe the essence of the states to be studied are essential (e.g. Rydberg or anion states require diffuse functions and strained rings require polarization fiinctions). [Pg.2189]

The passive state of a metal can, under certain circumstances, be prone to localized instabilities. Most investigated is the case of localized dissolution events on oxide-passivated surfaces [51, 106, 107, 108, 109, 110, ill, 112, 113, 114, 115, 116, 117 and 118]. The essence of localized corrosion is that distinct anodic sites on the surface can be identified where the metal oxidation reaction (e.g. Fe —> Fe + 2e ) dominates, surrounded by a cathodic zone where the reduction reaction takes place (e.g. 2Fi + 2e —> Fi2). The result is the fonnation of an active pit in the metal, an example of which is illustrated in figure C2.8.6(a) and (b). [Pg.2726]

These new quantities allow us to directly relate properties of tire media to E and H. In essence tliey afford us tire opportunity to quantify tire field-matter interaction. The media response to tire fields is described generally in tenns of tire polarization, P and tire magnetization, M. (We note tliat in free space P and M=Q and we recover equation (C2.15.1 ), equation (C2.15.2 ), equation (C2.15.3 ) and equation (C2.15.4 ) above.)... [Pg.2856]

Equation (23) represents the essence of the finite-difference method [21, 22, 23, 24],... [Pg.184]

Nomenclature is the compilation of descriptions of things and technical terms in a special field of knowledge, the vocabulary ofa technical language. In the history of chemistry, a systematic nomenclature became significant only rather late. In the early times of alchemy, the properties of the substance or its appearance played a major role in giving a compound a name. Libavius was the first person who tried to fix some kind of nomenclature in Alckeinia in 1,597. In essence, he gave names to chemical equipment and processes (methods, names that are often still valid in our times. [Pg.18]

In essence, a BE-matrix li.sts all the valence clcctron.s of the atoms in a molecule, both the ones involved in bonds and those associated as free electrons with an atom. A BE-matrix has a scries of interesting mathematical properties that directly... [Pg.37]

A major disadvantage of a matrix representation for a molecular graph is that the number of entries increases with the square of the number of atoms in the molecule. What is needed is a representation of a molecular graph where the number of entries increases only as a linear function of the number of atoms in the molecule. Such a representation can be obtained by listing, in tabular form only the atoms and the bonds of a molecular structure. In this case, the indices of the row and column of a matrix entry can be used for identifying an entry. In essence, one has to distinguish each atom and each bond in a molecule. This is achieved by a list of the atoms and a list of the bonds giving the coimections between the atoms. Such a representation is called a connection table (CT). [Pg.40]
