Time is of essence

Overdoses, as we ve mentioned, are quite common and dangerous. Often they come after combinations of pills have been taken. Best advice would be to get the person to a hospital as soon as possible. If you re in doubt, feel the person s pulse. If it is slow and irregular, or nonexistant, time is of essence. Before the ambulance arrives, here is the procedure to follow to avoid getting both of you busted (Same procedure for other drug OD s also, please note.)... 

The traditional methods described above require the use of heavy machinery, which may be difficult to access in a built-up environment. Since time is of essence in arresting the spread of contaminants to minimize the cleanup cost, novel methods that can overcome these difficulties are needed. The creation of an electrokinetic barrier is one such method that can address these concerns. In this method, an electrical field generated within/outside the contaminated zone causes the formation of a counter-gradient that can control the flow of water and contaminants. The relative ease of implementing electrokinetic barriers has generated a lot of interest in this technique as a viable alternative to traditional methods. The principles governing the creation of electrokinetic barriers are described in the next section. 

In the analysis, synthesis and optimization of batch plants complexity arises from the various operational philosophies that are inherent in time dependent processes. In a situation where the intermediate is allowed to wait in the same unit from which it is produced until the next unit is available, the operational philosophy is commonly known as no intermediate storage (NIS) operational philosophy. This philosophy is depicted in Fig. 1.3. NIS operational philosophy is usually adopted if operational space is of essence, since intermediate storage tanks can occupy considerable area.

The FDA s guidelines for drug development by disease must be considered in order to expedite the final NDA review and approval. The objective to remember throughout protocol development, and execution and presentation of the acquired data, is to demonstrate efficacy and safety to fulfill FDA s requirements for NDA approval. 

Most of the chemicals in a laboratory are toxic some are very toxic, and some—such as concentrated solutions of acids and bases—are highly coito-sive. Avoid contact between these liquids and the skin. In the event of such contact, immediately flood the affected area with copious quantities of water. If a corrosive solution is spilled on clothing, remove the garment immediately. Time is of the essence do not be concerned about modesty.

If the unthinkable should happen, and large volumes of acids are splashed upon your body, time is of the essence. You must run directly to the shower, jump in with all your clothes on, and flood the affected area with cool or lukewarm water while peeling your clothes off. A knowledge of the position of chemical equilibria is of the utmost importance to us in water chemistry. By knowing the position of chemical equilibria, we can determine whether it is possible for certain reactions between reactants at given concentrations to proceed. For example, we can provide answers to questions such as Will calcium carbonate tend to precipitate or dissolve in this water Can I possibly oxidize sulfide with nitrate and so on. There are two general ways to answer questions like these. The first is to do an experiment and the second is to calculate the answer using previously determined equilibrium data. Although the first way may be more enjoyable to those who like puttering around in the laboratory, the second approach is far superior if time is of the essence. 

Even in far less volatile commercial environments than that in which we now find ourselves, it may be beneficial to all parties to a transaction to modify the terms of issuance documentation and very often time is of the essence. In the absence of a trust structure, issuers would have to convene a meeting of the bondholders to sanction even the most mundane amendment to issuance documentation. Convening such meetings is a costly, time-consuming and generally arduous proposition that should only be undertaken when absolutely necessary. 

Because there is an almost infinitely wide range of accidents that might occur, the emergency procedures have to be flexible. Yet, because time is of the essence, the procedures also need to be rigid, short, and precise. In practice, a procedure will be written to address a general problem, such as a hydrocarbon fire. The operators and emergency responders then need to be trained to use that procedure as the basis of their specific response.
