Epoxidized soy bean oil

The most important costabilizers in PVC formulations used mainly in combination with mixed metal salts are alkyl-aryl-phosphites to improve early color. Epoxy compounds, for example, epoxidized fatty esters such as epoxidized soy bean oil, react directly with HCl or substitute labile chlorine atoms, for example, in the presence of zinc ions. Furthermore, the epoxidized fatty esters act as plasticizers. Polyols such as pentaerythritol or dipentaerythritol and P-diketones act as complexing agents and deactivate the negative effect of the formed zinc chloride. Hydrotalcites... [Pg.232]

Semi-SINs using amine-cured epoxies and butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber " were found to yield adhesives with extremely high bonding strength to metal. The rubber was based on Hycar, and the epoxy was based on a range of compositions, including epoxidized soy bean oil (Example 2). Sometimes the rubber was sulfur cured, yielding an IPN. [Pg.234]

The authors have established that alicyclic epojqr compounds are effective stabilizers of the polymer, in certain cases surpassing epoxided soy bean oil. Analogous stabilizer-plasticizers of polyvinyl chloride, representing epoxyhexahydrophthalates of bulyl, hexyl, iso-octyl, and certain other aliphatic alcohols, were described in [254] epoxided esters of 3,4-epoxycyclohexane-1,1-dimethanol and their alkyl-substituted derivatives [263], as well as 3,4-epoxy-l (or 6)-cyclohe g lmethyl esters of... [Pg.208]

Plasticizers containing epoxy linkages such as epoxidized soy bean oil or synergistic compounds such as dibasic lead phthalate and dibasic lead phosphite are also used to enhance heat stability. Non-lead-containing heat stabilizers are currently being developed. Other ingredients such as color pigments and fillers are added to the formulation for the desired coloration and cost reduction, respectively. [Pg.1068]

Conventional plasticizers for the PVDC-methyl acrylate, are dibutyl sebacate or epoxidized soy bean oil. Glycerin together with epoxy resins is a plasticizer combination for PVDC. Another suitable plasticizer combination is a liquid epoxy resin based on epichlorohy-drin and bisphenol A, and 2-ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate (33,34). The resultant stretch oriented films show excellent oxygen permeabilities. [Pg.17]

Still other hydrolytic stabilizers, such as those which are carbodi-imide or poly(carbodiimide) based, or based on epoxidized soy bean oil, are considered useful. The total amount of hydrolytic stabilizer employed will generally be less than 5.0% of the composition (10). [Pg.148]

In the formation of sustainable thermoset resins, epoxidized and acrylated epoxy-dized plant oils and fatty acids have been largely utihzed, as reported from hterature [51]. For composite applications, acrylated epoxydized soy bean oil (AESO) resin is mainly used because it is commercially accessible [52]. The synthesis of AESO is shown Figure 6.10 the carbon-carbon double bonds in the fatty acid chains are modified to append different polymerizable functionalities, such as epoxides and acrylates, to increase the reactivity of the vegetable oils [53], AESO can be cured at room and high temperatures, depending on the initiator, and can be blended with a reactive diluent such as styrene in order to improve the processing flowability and the mechanical performance. Structural applications such as sandwich beams... [Pg.228]

Recently, other natural materials have heen investigated for raw materials of adhesives. For example, polylactide resin can he applied to the main components of adhesives (Viljanmaa et aL 2002). LignophenoUc resins derived from lumber (Kadota et al. 2004) and chitosan resin from exoskeleton of crustacean are other examples (Yamada et al. 2000 Umemura et al. 2003). Soy beans oils can be epoxidized and used for adhesive main components (Ratna and Banthia 2000). The powder of lumbers such as cork is promising as fillers for adhesives because it can give ductility to the cured bulk of adhesive (Jos and Leite 2007). [Pg.1509]
