Epichlorohydrin and Bisphenol A-Derived Resins. The most widely used epoxy resins are diglycidyl ethers of bisphenol A [25068-38-6] (1) derived from bisphenol A [80-05-7] and epichlorohydrin [106-89-8],... [Pg.362]

Polynuclear Phenol—Glycidyl Ether-Derived Resins. This is one of the first commercially available polyfunctional products. Its polyfunctionahty permits upgrading of thermal stabiUty, chemical resistance, and electrical and mechanical properties of bisphenol A—epoxy systems. It is used in mol ding compounds and adhesives. [Pg.364]

Epichlorohydrin and Bisphenol A-Derived Resins. Liquid epoxy resins maybe synthesized by a two-step reaction of an excess of epichl orohydrin to bisphenol A in the presence of an alkaline catalyst. The reaction consists initially in the formation of the dichi orohydrin of bisphenol A and further reaction by dehydrohalogenation of the intermediate product with a stoichiometric quantity of alkaH. [Pg.365]

In this section the rosins and rosin derivative resins, coumarone-indene and hydrocarbon resins, polyterpene resins and phenolic resins will be considered. The manufacture and structural characteristics of natural and synthetic resins will be first considered. In a second part of this section, the characterization and main properties of the resins will be described. Finally, the tackifier function of resins in rubbers will be considered. [Pg.597]

The acid number is mainly defined for rosins and rosin-derived resins and for phenol-modified resins. Standard hydrocarbon resins have zero acid number because the absence of functional groups. However, the acid number allows one to control deterioration by oxidation with formation of carbonyl and carboxyl groups in hydrocarbon resins. Typical acid number values of different resin types are ... [Pg.615]

Several cases of spontaneous ignition after exposure to air of fine coke particles removed from filter strainers on a petroleum refinery furfural extraction unit have been noted. This has been associated with the use of sodium hydrogen carbonate (bicarbonate) injected into the plant for pH control, which produced a pH of 10.5 locally. This would tend to resinify the aldehyde, but there is also the possibility of a Cannizzaro reaction causing conversion of the aldehyde to furfuryl alcohol and furoic acid. The latter, together with other acidic products of autoxidation of the aldehyde, would tend to resinily the furfuryl alcohol. Pyrolysis GLC showed the presence of a significant proportion of furfuryl alcohol-derived resins in the coke. The latter is now discarded into drums of water, immediately after discharge from the strainers, to prevent further incidents. [Pg.602]

Abstract. The direct scale-up of a solid-phase synthesis has been demonstrated with 4-(2-amino-6-phenylpyrimidin-4-yl)benzamide and an arylsulfonamido-substituted hydroxamic acid derivative as examples. These compounds were obtained through combinatorial chemistry and solution-phase synthesis was used in parallel to provide a comparison. By applying highly loaded polystyrene-derived resins as the solid support, a good ratio between the product and the starting resin is achieved. We have demonstrated that the synthesis can be scaled up directly on the solid support, successfully providing the desired compounds easily and quickly in sufficient quantities for early development demands. [Pg.187]

A similar selectivity for copper over Fe3+ ions was observed for the recently described pyridyl-imidazole derivative resins, PI1 and PI2.384 There, too, iron is believed to be loaded onto the resin as the Fe(S04)2- anion, and it was shown383 that a six-fold improvement in the selectivity for copper over iron resulted when the aqueous-solution anion was changed from sulfate to nitrate, which does not form anionic complexes with Fe3+ ions. [Pg.825]

Sasrin -derived resin of type 72 (1 equiv.) was suspended in NMP and coupled vtith an Fmoc-protected amino acid (2-3 equiv.) for 4 h at 20 °C in the presence of equimolar amounts of PyBrOP and DIEA. After repeated washes with NMP, the resin 73 was first treated with piperidine (20% in NMP) for 20 min, and then (after rinsing with NMP) with bis(2-pyridyl)thiocarbonate (0.14 M solution in CH2CI2, 10 equiv.) for 2 h at 20 °C. The resulting resin 74 was washed exhaustively with NMP and resuspended for subsequent treatment vtith an acyl hydrazide (20 equiv.) for 16 h at 20 °C. Intermediate 75 was washed first with NMP and then with DMSO. The cyclization was performed vtith a solution of EDC HCl in DMSO (0.08 mmol/mL, 10 equiv.) at 80 °C and was complete within 16 h. Cleavage of product 77 was accomplished -with TFA/CH2CI2 (1 1) in 1 h at 20 °C, giving the product in solution in > 90% purity (44-92% overall yield). [Pg.399]

Besides the benzyl hydrazide linker 44, Wieland et al. introduced a 2,2-diphenyl-2-hydroxyethyl-ester derived resin [58], This linker type can be activated by acid-catalyzed dehydration (aq. TFA) to give the reactive enol ester 51, which affords amides 53 upon treatment with amines (Scheme 16.12). [Pg.447]

An efficient and selective solid-phase synthesis of trans 3-alkyl-4-aryl-P-lactams from nonactivated acid chlorides has been accomplished <04TL4085>. The [2+2] cycloaddition between an aldehyde-derived resin-bound imine and a solution-generated ketene has been used to generate a variety of stereochemically pure cw-P-lactams <04JOC5439>. A new polymer-supported reagent has been used for the preparation of P-... [Pg.68]

Compression-molded soy protein plastics are rigid and brittle without plasticizers present in the formulation (Paetau et al., 1994). Water absorption of early protein plastics could not be reduced to the very low levels that were obtained with synthetic, petroleum-derived resin products however, color, dyeing, and strength properties were good and production costs were relatively low (Johnson Myers, 1995). [Pg.560]
