Enhancements Feasibility Study

Three chapters about online databases follow. Clemens Jochum s concerns the construction of the Beilstein Online database. Of particular interest are the complete representation of stereochemistry and the replacement of bond orders by electronic information, allowing a global, and unique, representation of tautomers. Ole Norager describes the ECDIN project, in which data has been collected on environmental chemicals and made accessible online. Gerry vander Stouw shows how the Chemical Abstracts Registry System Enhancements Feasibility Study project identified aspects of the CAS structuring conventions which create problems for users and he considers the improvements which may be recommended. [Pg.478]

It is dear that the need to formulate new catalysts, which exhibit enhanced performance with respect to those currently employed for spedfic reactions, represents a difficult undertaking. The goal, therefore, is not an ideal catalyst but the optimum, which may be defined by economic feasibility studies concerning not only the catalyst but also the rest of the process [41]. Depending on the use and the economic competition, optimization studies establish a hierarchy among the properties and characteristics of a catalyst. [Pg.180]

Preparative TLC is an ideal quantitative technique for radioactive and toxic substances and for feasibility studies of reactions of expensive pharmaceutical mixtures. A recent innovation has been the introduction of taper plates (Analtech) for use in preparative TLC work. The dimensions and features of the taper plate are illustrated in Figure 3.14. Sample concentration prior to separation occurs in the pre-adsorbent zone. The tapered adsorbent layer causes low R bands to separate further than on a preparative plate of constant thickness. A more uniform mobile phase flow pattern and reduced vertical band spreading, further enhance the performance. [Pg.80]

The PCP system has a long history from the point of feasibility study and engineering-design, since its invention in the 19th century, however its use for commercial operations is very limited. Recent industrial concerns and trends such as environmental issues have enhanced the attention of the PCP system due to its environmental friendliness and its effectively diversified applications. This paper firstly traces SMI s experiences and operational scheme, as well as SMI s recent potential application, then explains the future technological developments in Japan. [Pg.505]
