Engineering thermoplastics copolymers

Styrene—maleic anhydride copolymer [9011-13-6] engineering thermoplastics, paper treatment chemicals, floor poHshes, emulsifiers, protective coUoids, antisoil agents, dispersants... [Pg.460]

This class of polyesters consists of four major commercial polymers and their copolymers, namely PET, PTT, PBT, and PEN (see Table 2.1). They compete for engineering thermoplastics, films, and fibers markets with other semicrystalline polymers, such as aliphatic polyamides, and for some other applications with amorphous engineering plastics such as polycarbonate. The syntheses of PET and PBT, detailed in numerous reviews and books,2-5 are described in Sections 23.2.2 and 2.3.2.1. [Pg.44]

Table 17 provides a list of various polysiloxane-poly(aryl ether) copolymers investigated. Depending on the type, nature and the level of the hard blocks incorporated, physical, thermal and mechanical properties of these materials can be varied over a very wide range from that of thermoplastic elastomers to rubber modified engineering thermoplastics. Resultant copolymers are processable by solution techniques and in some cases by melt processing 22,244). [Pg.43]

Cyclic olefin copolymers (COC)s are engineering thermoplastics derived from norbornene. An addition polymer of norbornene was originally described in 1955 (1). [Pg.41]

PFA — Copolymer of TFE with perfluoro(propylvinyl ether), an engineering thermoplastic characterized by excellent thermal stability, release properties, low friction, and toughness. Its performance is comparable to PTFE except it is melt-processible. [Pg.170]

Segmented copolymers with polyimides were produced by Keohan [43] and also by Smith [44], who also utilized the same coupling reaction with other amino-terminated engineering thermoplastics (ETP) to produce perfectly alternating block sequences. The generalized scheme for the reaction of the anhydride functional oligomer with amine-terminated polyimides or other ETP s is provided in Scheme 7. [Pg.71]

By using mixtures of adipic and azelaic acids as monomers in the reaction with MDI, transparent copolymers are obtained useful as engineering thermoplastics. Also, copolyamides obtained from mixtures of isophthalic (IPA) and azelaic acids and MDI/TDI mixtures have been made. TDI in combination with MDI is used to lower the melt temperature of the IPA/MDI blocks to allow thermoplastic processing. [Pg.269]

The development of polypropylene copolymer multiphase systems is continuing at a robust pace. These polymer systems, based on simple and inexpensive polymer budding blocks, are being improved for applications historically reserved for more expensive engineering thermoplastics. The understanding of the structure/property relationships in polypropylene copolymers will indeed be a driver for further innovation in the commercial application of these polymers. [Pg.375]
