Typical small volume box furace with embedded microcontroller. The white setter visible on the upper shelf is used to support the blue substrate during firing. [Pg.272]

The PMT (photomultiplier) Sensor Module HC 135-01 with embedded microcontrol system for chemiluminescence intensity detection was purchased from Hamamatsu (Hamamatsu Corporation, Bridgewater, NJ, USA), and mounted in a light-tight holder for capillary made in black Delrin The standard LKB Wallac 1250 luminometer (EC G Wallac, Turku, Finland) was used as a reference detector. Multiskan MCC/340 (Helsinki, Finland) was used as the microtiter plate reader. [Pg.228]

Recent progresses in micro- and nanotechnology have led to the design of implantable, swallowable, wearable, or portable wireless biosensors to continuously monitor and detect important physiological parameters. The miniaturization and integration of biosensors, readout circuits, embedded microcontrollers, and wireless transceivers on a single chip have opened the way for new possibilities in medical applications. [Pg.165]

Presentations on current trends. To motivate students towards theory as well as laboratory, teaching of present developments and applications of microcontroller in embedded world is done by showing the videos of microcontroller application in different areas like home, industrial, commercial application and projects developed by hobbyist. As a presentation in class students need to choose one important application of microcontroller that is applicable to modem world and give presentation for 10 min. [Pg.529]

A microcontroller is a self-contained computing system with peripherals, memory, and central processing unit. Mostly the system is embedded into any products/systems for which its used. For this reason, it is also referred to as embedded controller. The largest single use for microcontrollers is in the automobile industry, but it finds its application in almost all day-to-day use devices such as ovens, toasters, and clock systems. Also it has a number of applications in medical units viz. an artificial kidney or heart. Even in sophisticated spacecraft, microcontrollers are used. In instrumentation, there has been extensive use of microcontrollers, viz. sensor, field controller, positions, etc. Naturally some knowledge about the same is essential for studying SIS. [Pg.985]

Environmental sensing can also detect the presence of enemies or potential biochemical threats. Appropriate sensors can identify blast situations and report if there are any health risks. The use of conductive woven fabrics with embedded button-sized microphones to detect the sound of remote objects such as approaching vehicles has been reported (Berzowska, 2005 Uttam, 2014). A microcontroller compares and analyses the sound from each microphone to detect the direction of the sound. [Pg.242]

Microcontroller and Computer Systems - The Arduino Nano board (from Atmel) is used as the interface between AD5933 (I2C) and the conputer (USB). The embedded software in the microcontroller executes special commands to configure operating parameters of the AD5933 and data read are sent to the computer. The software allows the setting of some parameters of the AD5933, such as frequency sweep number of collecting data, time between data collection, Vout amplitude and resistor calibration value. Impedance data are processed, converted in terms of R, Xc and PA values, which are stored in a text format. [Pg.70]

Vulnerabilities can be located at network, hardware and software level. Hardware vulnerabilities are especially a challenge for security engineering if parts of the embedded systems are employed in a potentially not trustworthy environment. In addition, hardware could generally be equipped with additional malicious components [17]. Reconfigurable means a microcontroller is reprogrammable. This could be because one step in the commissioning process has not been executed. With not tamper proof hardware, an attacker could access hardware components and execute direct attacks on the hardware. [Pg.314]

In the case of software it often occurs that multiple software components exist, which are then integrated into the entire embedded software in a microcontroller. Formally seen, multiple functional groups that are integrated into a microcontroller can be integrated as system elements. However, because the hardware-software interface imposes a lot of requirements on the software that need to be implemented, the interface is becoming increasingly complex (Fig. 3.10). [Pg.64]

This paper presents an approach to traffic signals for safety-critical applications based on an embedded system. It includes a presentation of safety-related hardware and a microcontroller with embedded safety-related firmware. [Pg.138]

The safety-related firmware is running on a microcontroller embedded in the power supply unit (cf. Fig. 3). It is a 3-tier structure as illustrated in Fig. 4. The lower layer called driver layer comprises the hardware related functionality. The application layer includes the management functionality required to run and monitor the system. The application is located at the upper layer and is triggering the required functionality. [Pg.143]
